Hi,

Can anyone tell me if I can convert my Epson 1290 to be a dedicated black & white printer, with a better set of inks?

If so, how easy is this to do and how good can the results be?

Regards
Ernst

Or is anyone using a similar colour printer, but dedicated to b&w work with a b&w specific inkset?

Ernst,
I've been using a couple of Epsons for my home printing; a 1270 and a C86. I've left the 1270 alone and use it for color prints. On the C86 I have converted it to B&W only. I use the refillable cartridges and bulk ink from MIS (LINK (http://www.inksupply.com/qn.cfm)). I am very pleased with the results. Rather easy to set up too.

Take care,
Michael

Permajet do a set of dedicated monochrome inks for the 1290 http://www.permajet.com/product/410/Monochrome_PermaFlow_Epson_1290.html but at over £300 you would be as well spending the money on a new epson 2400 or an HP B9180 unless you do a lot of printing in which case you'd save money on ink costs
