Hello all.

Long time no see - I've been lurking around, but haven't posted much in ages.

Anyway....

My wife has this SLR she's very attached to and fond of. It's a Minolta Dynax 404si - straightforward, easy to use, not my cup of tea but she likes it.

The autofocus is starting to fritz, and I've no idea idea where to go to get something like this repaired.

Any ideas?

(I do expect a repairer to recommend a new one, but I need to get it looked at just in case.)

Ta all.

Cameratiks in Edinburgh are excellent. They've done work on my Nikon F's. Minolta SRT101 and most recently, Ricoh GR1s.

Note that they have a link featuring their postal service.

Hi Mark,
Try cameraworkshop@tiscali.co.uk I know several people who recommend this person. He works out of Milton Keynes and carries the remnants of the Minolta spares. He is also very good on pricing.

Cheers,

I'd check the price of second hand ones before getting it repaired. You may be able to get a nice second hand duplicate for less than the repair.

Thanks all for the tips - a few leads to follow, there.

Ernst - I used Cameratiks for some older gear (TLRs, RFs) when I lived in Edinburgh. For some reason I didn't think of them for the more electronicky stuff...

I've been told by several locals that Camserve (http://www.camserve.co.uk/) is the place to go to. I've just emailed them and they've said they'll CLA my QL19 for £30 + VAT (and that's including replacing some dodgy parts). In fact, at work, we tend to tell people to go there rather than use our service.
