Howdy all,
I have a silly question. I have an RF that I would like to buy a snap-on lens cover for since the original one slips off too easily.
The barrel size is 60mm, but the thread is 58mm. Should I be looking for a 60mm or 58mm snap-on cover?
Thx for your time ;)

It'll be a 58mm cap.

awesome thx!
I don't know any shooters 'round here who use snap-on caps. Why would you want one? In the time you take it off and put in a pocket I can take a pic and rewind.\
I use B&W UV filters; all the protection you ever need. If it lasts a year without getting dagged up and thrown out, great. If it lasts longer, its a bonus.

I hear that with good glass, it's a good idea to get top of the line bw filters....is this myth or true? I was trying to avoid spending too much on quality filters and go with caps for the time being. Know of any cheap alternatives for filters?

I would definetly go with b+w filters, you can pick them up reasonably used. I still use caps (including snap-on's) as I have yet to find a filter that will prevent a hole burned in a shutter curtain. I'd rather lose a pic now and again personally.

What size/type filters are you looking for?

two 52 mm b+w or two 58mm snap ons, hehe
Which camera? If there's a photo cell in the lens area, al la Ricoh 500 & others, you will drain the tiny battery with no cap. I don't know how long it takes to drain a $3.50 battery but think about it.

Then the answer to the lens cap question I gave was wrong, I must have misunderstood what you meant by snap-on. The cap with two push buttons on either side fit inside the threads and are the same size, so you would want a 52mm cap. The push on caps are usually 2mm's more then the thread size.

A screw-in or snap-in cap, 58 mm. A push-on cap, 60 mm.
