I don't know about a worldwide day and time for a Yashica click-fest. But how about some examples of what your Yashica can do?

Here's one I just scanned. The Arno river in Florence, on a cloudy, snowy day In Italy, 2/22/05.

One advantage to Florence this time of year.....the Arno has some water.

here's one from my GS, which I've had for about a month now. It was this series and a roll of color I shot that made me really like these cameras. The over/slow indicators on my camera require that I "pump" the release to wake them up, they're a little flaky (a cleaning maybe?). I'm not a big fan of not being able to have more exposuure control and not knowing the shutter speed, but I love the fast lens and the look. :p

jon,
I see in your signature that you have both the Yashica GSN and the Canon G III QL17, and I see you using the Yashica in your avatar. I just picked up a QL17 today. Which do you prefer?

The Yashica overall, although I obtained good results with the QL17. I I like the larger size, and the available light abilities of the GSN.

This Yashica forum got me thinking, I have not used any of mine in a while :( , so I got my 35CC out, disassembled it to clean some haze out of the RF window and shot a couple rolls with it today. I almost forgot what great cameras these are! I made a galleryfor my 35CC images, here are some samples: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showgallery.php/cat/820

Good forum,

Nice images, Todd. Great light. I need to find some repair/maintenance information for Yashicas, so that I can take care of some of the little issues I have with mine.

It's a pity I don't have my own scanner. Today I developed the first pictures I took with my Lynx 14E and it appeared to work perfectly. The pictures show great contrast and sharpness.

I dug my GSN out of my local camera store's junk box. I paid $2.00 for it and $1.00 for a 55mm hood. A little vinegar in the battery compartment, a new 6volt battery and a small wad of Aluminum foil and it was good to go.

OK, here's one from my newly repaired Professional:

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/9720/sort/1/cat/500/page/1

The star burst is light reflecting off the polished marble obelisk - I was interested to see if I could capture this without suffering from too much flare. I think the result is quite encouraging. The film is an off-brand 400asa special, but may actually be 3M.

Overall, I'm very happy with this camera - particularly the low-light performance and accuracy of the meter. I also got a GTN which is the next one for a test roll - if it's as good as the Pro, it will be another keeper!

I seem to have caught the Electro bug - I have a GSN in a state of complete dissassembly and a GT on its way from the US. Now, if I can just snag a CC......

jon_flanders

I would say that is excellent handling of flare with an Electro. I have learned to avoid shooting towards the sun, even with a hood.

Very impressive. I'm going to take a break from shooting with one Minolta Hi-Matic 9 and trying to free up the shutter on another, and take out the GS with the GSN lens and new pad of death. We'll see how that does.

Just got the negatives from the first roll of the early Electro G that I repaired with a new pad and a lens from a GSN. I'm pretty satisfied with the results, the meter and shutter seem to be working as they should.

I use a canvas bag which drapes over the carrier on the rear of the bike. My wife got it as a teenager for a bike trip in Europe. I don't know if such things are still made, but it's great for small shopping trips and carrying a camera.

I suppose you could make one up using two small backpacks, one for each side of the bike.

Forgive me if this has already been posted, but check out the Yashica photos at this website. The gentleman uses an Electro 35.

http://www.fsb.hr/~srudan/stranice/start.htm

Click on one of the seven galleries at the bottom of his page, then click "continue"
when the page for that gallery loads. You will then be viewing the photos.

You'll see beautiful examples of what the Yashica Electros are capable of.

Hello everyone,

I am new here, and just found this thread. I have a Yashica Electro 35, my dad's old camera which he passed to me when he got a new digicam, and have only recently discovered again what a great camera it is.

Here's my website with two pages of Electro photos.

I finally got around to posting one of the test-roll shots from my new/old GSN on my website:

http://www.two-muses.com/arch/2005_09.html#000633

I'm really loving this camera (the sharpness and the colours are extraordinary), but am definitely still in learning mode: I'll give myself a major pat on the back when I get through 36 exposures without a single "underexposed" (lens cap on, stom-stom-stom) image!

I'll have to start noting this info - I miss the little square to hold the boxtop that my Nikon FE has...

Lynn just use a piece of masking tape. It is translucent and re stickable (is there such a word?) I just peel off the old box top and tape the new one to the back of the Yashica. Not the best but it works.

Hi Harlee

At the moment, Jorge, the site administrator and owner, is having some problems with the attachments data, following a move to a new server, and he has asked us not to post attachments just now. He'll let us know when it's ok again.

However, when things are back to normal, look for the "Manage Attachments" button, on the "Reply to Thread" screen, below the box where you type your reply. After you click on that it will open a small dialog that allows you to attach up to five images. Best to keep the images to low-res, 800x600 or smaller.

I've had my Electro 35 GS just under a month, I put new seals in it, cleaned it, made a battery holder from a roll of "sticky notes" paper and a spring, and lubed it.

I am really amazed at the quality of the photos! Great contrast and sharpness. I liked it so much in fact that I just bought a GSN, but have not shot any film through it yet.

FInally have enough film through the GSN to come up with some photos. These are all from a recent trip to Vietnam. Quality of the actual photos is much better than these images -- I used Walgreens Photo CD service to get these, but I felt the digital images excessively grainy compared to the actual prints.

Hi!
Here are a couple of shots from my GSN, which I cleaned and re-leathered recently. The POD was made of a clear material which was still in perfect condition. I have noticed this on some GSN's, while others have the deteriorating pile of goo. (I currently have about 20 Electro's in various stages of dissassembly...)
Anyway, I had the GSN out yesterday and shot a roll of Plus-X. Processed it last night and printed out a few of the beter ones, of which these 2 are the best. The third shot is a digital of my GSN.
The Yashica's and the Ciro-flex TLR's that I recently discovered (I have 7 of them right now!) inspired me to get back into the darkroom after a 19 year lull. Forgot how much fun it is!! I still use my digital occasionally, for snap-shot purposes and ebay listings, but the Yashica and the Ciro-flex are for more serious photography. Now I have a new excuse for going back to all the museums that I have been to a million times!!

Regards to all,

Russ

I don't mean to hijack this thread with UPS stories.... but... I quit using them unless forced to by a vendor. I received my first Yashica electro today, a 35 GSN. No battery in it but it sure looks clean. I read somewhere that the shutter should still fire (with no battery) at 1/500. Mine does not. Is this true or will this rf only fire with a working battery?

Thanks for any info.

I have a GSN that I just got (no battery, waiting on the Yashica Guy adapter to arrive) and it will still fire when I cock and release the shutter. I believe you're right that it's supposed to default to 1/500 of a second without battery.

The Yashica GSN page on Matt's Cameras (http://homepage.mac.com/mattdenton/photo/cameras/yashica_gsn.html) mentions the default 1/500 shutter speed.

Kevin
01-25-2006, 14:33
Yes I have been reading that on many different pages. Unfortunately this one's shutter does not open at all. I think the blades are stuck.

Looks like I will either have to return it or repair it myself. POD is not present - the film advance produces a healthy clunk.

cp_ste.croix
01-25-2006, 14:45
Yeah, it sounds like it needs repairs...mine fires without a battery as well. They are great cameras however, son't let this minor setback dissuade you from owning one.

01-25-2006, 15:20
Hello Kevin,

From your picture your shutter blades look normal. They are not supposed to be symmetrical. As far as your shutter problem, you might try this:

Remove the bottom of the camera by removing the three screws. Above the gears of the winding system there are two shafts with screwdriver slots, a large one and a smaller one. (See the picture attached) With a jewelers screwdriver of the proper size, turn the smaller one counter-clockwise a turn at a time and try your shutter after each turn. It is possible that there is not enough travel to trip the shutter lever that comes out of the lens assembly. Turning the shaft will increase the travel. If after 5 or 6 turns it still doesn't trip the shutter, there may be something more seriously wrong.

Hope this helps.

Russ

jon_flanders
01-25-2006, 15:46
It is quite likely that the shutter blades are stuck together with old lube. You need to take ou the front lens element and clean the blades with q tips and lighter fluid. I have fixed quite a few old leaf shutters this way.

Its not a difficult repair really. It might take a few days of letting the blades dry and checking before you are sure that the problem is gone.

Kevin

This is probably a good place to say 'Hi' to everyone. I've had my Yashicas since 2000 when I bought them at GoodWill. At the time I didn't know much about photography. I got a test roll of film back from the GS and was hooked. That was late 2004.

Any G, GS, or GSN shots I scan end up here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/luketrash/sets/406352/

They're great cameras when they work right. In my opinion the build quality of the G I have is better than the GS, and the GS better than the GSN. They all work the same.

I prefer them over my Yashica TL Electro-X SLR camera that has a 50mm Yashinon f1.4 lens.

Hi everyone, this is my first post on this forum.

My everyday (and only) camera is a Yashica Electro 35 GSN, so I thought this might be a good place to start posting.

Six months ago I knew nothing about camera's and taking photographs, other than that the old ones look a lot better than those new plastic digicam's. So I started looking for a good second hand camera and came across some websites claiming that their beloved Electro 35 was a "poor man's Leica". While I didn't understand mysterious terms like leaf-shutters, fast glass, aperture and DOF, I did know that a so-called Leica costs more than a second hand car. That's got to be good, right?

So I set out to find a Yashica Electro 35. Online I found a camera collector who didn't live to far away, selling his Yashica for 25 euros. I drove over there, turned the dials, pushed some buttons and bought it (for 20 euro's, he gave me a discount because I'm a student. He was a really nice guy!)

Anyway, I bought some film, started shooting and haven't stopped since. But what I think is incredible, and it's something I'm only starting to realize, is that my Yashica has no defects whatsoever. Even the foam seals are all in place and good order! The collector I bought it from had never even taken the camera out of its well worn leather case, hadn't cleaned it, it hasn't been serviced in decades.

But the metering is spot-on, the shutter works like a charm, there are no signes of damage because of moisture, no battery corrosion, it's like brand new, but over 30 years old!

Well, to wrap up a long story. I just wanted to share my happiness with some people who I think would understand. My girlfriend usually falls asleep when I start talking about camera's or any of the other old things I like to collect like typewriters or out-dated electronics.

Attached are two examples of pictures I took with my Yashica Electro 35 GSN. Film used is Fujifilm Superia 100.

The first one was taken on a dreary day in Taiwan (I live there now) with the lens probably all the way open. The second one on a bright sunny day during a performance on the Taiwanese National Day (10 October) at the Chaing Kai-shek memorial hall (you can see the gate in the background).

That's it. Enjoy. I know I will enjoy all the beautifull pictures made and posted on this site by all the members. Lots of things to learn from here!

some great pics!

Almost all of my pics are taken with a GSN these days, as I don't have the $ for an interchangeable lens RF.

More can be found in my gallery and coming soon. Alas, I'm still looking for my contest winning image :)

Here's a couple from my 1st roll with my GS I just got back from the Yashica Spa. You guessed it. G'man is THE man when working over these babys. I took one of these pics from the cab of my Kenworth. I did a little color correction to comp for the sodium lights and cropped down to pano size for effect. The second is in a dimly lit bar, handheld with 400 speed film. I had to add one more. This camera is excellent at getting the exposure right. I'm astonished.

I'll try to post two photos. Last time the quality was not good. If they look mushy, pretend they look very sharp. ;)

I took these with my Yashica GT that the G'man repaired beautifully. Every single exposure, inside and out, was dead-on accurate.

First images from my Electro Professional. I've never figured out why they are called "professional" other than they are black. The top ASA rating is 500, unlike the GSN which has 1000 as it's fastest ASA.

The glass on this camera is also a smaller diameter than my GSN. The specs are the same 45mm with f1.7 at it's widest.

These were shot with Kodak BW400CN.

Hi I got a Yashica GSN which my Dad used earlier, and the pics I've attached are taken fron the first roll I shot with this camera. It was Kodak Max 400 though I've heard really bad things about this roll. Before this I've only used Kodak Focus free cameras and am totally in love with the Yashica. It works fine but without the battery, the auto exposure thing doesn't work.

Pics are from India.

Also I noticed that in some of the pics where I used the hood, black edges can be seen in the corners. I used the metal hood that was there with the camera. Also while using Tele or Wide lens do you need to adjust the focus after fixing the lens to some other length than what you focus through the viewfinder? I'm a total newbie to photography and may not even know the most basic terms, so kindly excuse me for any confusion.

Would appreciate if anyone can share some information on that.

Also these are some pics from Goa, India.

Yeah the cherry blossom scene is pretty impressive here in Vancouver, B.C.... and shooting flowers and trees is something new and challenging for me too, so in the past month I've spent a lot of time in gardens and parks and cherry blossom hot spots.

Hello Jan,
well, if you're referring to my three, than the film is Kodak BW400CN.
I set the camera at asa 400.

This is one of the shots from the first roll through the Electro 35 GS I got last Saturday. The film is the Kodak C-41 asa 400 B&W film. I have shot this type of film in my Leica at the same location and previously did not get such raspy almost blown out results. I'm shooting another roll this week to see if it was a fluke or if the metering in the camera is out of kilter.

I just got an Electro 35 GSN today and I guess I got lucky as the description on eBay actually fits the camera and it works. I'll have to change the foam, but that's about it. I shot my first roll of film this morning (Kodak BW400CN) and ran it over to get processed immediately claiming to my boss that I had to make sure it worked and all. He just smiled bemusedly.

The shot is garbage, but I still like the composition.

I had to scan a print at work with a really nasty scanner we have laying around so what's there is there, what's not is lost. The print wasn't half bad (the wall has texture) but I'm not much for 1 hour printing. I'm not complaining though, the camera worked nicely.

Now I've got a roll of Ilford XP2 in the camera and am interested to see how that compares to the Kodak.

I believe this is my first rangefinder. I used to shoot B&W with an old Minolta SLR and soup and print my own, but that was years ago. I gave up for a while and then came back with a Nikon dSLR, but I really missed film...so here I am.

Aloha, Bob

I've got a GSN and use Kodak BW C41. I don't know what lens you use with your Leica but this seems to look about what I'd expect from the Kodak. Check some Kodak Gold 200 in it as well. I like the 'glow' I get out of the Yashica lens. Might not be to your tastes tho.

Granted the one I posted I thought was one of the better ones.

Here's one from the same roll that is more of what I thought of as bad. ASA 200 Kodak is the next roll to go in the E35 GS.

I think I see what you are talking about. From my screen it doesn't seem to be a focus or exposure issue. Since it's C41 it is lab processed. I'm kind suspicious of the processing from the lab. Still time will tell. Anything look physically out of order on the lens?

The lens appears perfectly clean and in alignment. I got the same results from a roll of Kodak asa 200 color shot the same day in a different camera and processed at the same time as the B&W.

Here's one from the color roll. It was an interesting situation. A group calling itself the "Border Guardians" set fire to a Mexican flag in front of the Mexican Consulate in Tucson Sunday as a protest of the illegal immigration situation . While I am a member of the Minutemen and I am for better security at the border I thought this stunt was stupid beyond belief and could only draw negative results. It did. The same guy did it again on Monday and was arrested for a number of charges.

I have shot this same type of film from the same batch and gotten much better results.....from the same Walgreens no less.

Looking at the first shot it also has the similar qualities of the second BW. I have a feeling that the scan you have got or the processing at Walgreens may be the issue.

I recall a thread a while back on C41 processing and a few people railing about the training of the operators of the lab equipment. Might want to take the film to another lab or Walgreens and see what happens.

BTW I guess the ‘flag burner’ doesn’t intend to go into Mexico anytime soon.. LaL!

PS : quite a shot!

Thank you, I had to wait through 45 minutes of dreary inarticulate blithering from the "speakers" for the group and stomp on a few tv news types to get and keep my camera position but I did get the shots I came for that day.

I got a new roll of C-41 B&W back from processing shot with the Yashica and I'm pretty sure it was the Walgreens on that particular day that was the problem. This time I used a Walgreens 1 hour near work and they processed the film okay....but scratched the sh** out of one of the two negs I thought were keepers.

Sigh...

I had to ps the sunset shot a lot to get the scratches out. The other was okay. A positive note though. I found and old Topcor lens shade that fits the Yashica and I wasn't sure if it was the right size. Aparently it is okay as I see no problems at the corners of the full frame. The lower portion of the never ready case is also from the Topcon.

I am currently involved in a program at work where the two owners of the company and four employees are studying to take a Cisco Systems exam for certification to install lan systems. We started a "boot camp" study program last Friday at a local computer learning center and will take part one of the exam next Wednesday. While for some of you this may not seem a big deal but for me it has involved a LOT of after hours study and review of materials. I had just finished a two hour study session Saturday night and needed a break from it when it occurred to me that some night shots downtown would be just the thing to clear my head.

It was great. When I turned on the radio in the car the local public radio station had jazz on and it was just the right music to hear while driving downtown. La Placita Villiage was completely deserted. Not a soul in sight. I took a number of shots in and around the site and below are a couple I thought worked out okay. Although the Yashica E 35 will compute long exposures on its own I took along my meter and shot in bulb using the exposures indicated by my meter. Aperture in all cases was f-22.

Well, there seems to be a problem with the site at the moment. I uploaded one image but it won't upload the second right now.

Ah, there it is.

I also just recently got a GSN and was also really surprised by how flare prone the lens is. Probably the worst in this regard of any camera I've ever owned. I'll have to find a good hood for it and be more careful and see if I can get better results.

Hopefully this will come out. Nothing compostionally enticing here, just checking my light seal job on a brand new looking GSN. Found the auto up and other accessory lens and checked those out too. Works great. It is without a question, a thinking process. No auto focus here. I was roughly 1.8 Ft. from the tomato which by the way is getting bigger, and barring any infestations, will ripen soon. This was taken handheld and this is the image from the cd from Wal Mart, but at 100%, I can clearly see the little hair like growth on the main stalk of the plant.

I looked at the two you uploaded the first looks great, the second is too considering you were facing into a light the result impresses me. Did you use the meter for both shots or only one? If only one, which one? I'm just curious.

@ Kevin, I find my GSN and my Lynx 14 both prone to flare. I just avoid shooting into the sun. Unless you have a multi coated lens of high quality (like Zeiss Sonnar for example) most shooters have flare. I use a lens hood to deal with this but even then .... it doesn't always save my shots toward the sun. For $40 I can't imagine being able to purchase any lens that would survive that test. I just use it for what it is capable of and it does that very well for me. A lot of my gallery shots are with this camera.

For both. I have gone back at night once since then and used the auto exposure of the camera as well as a meter and found that the hand held meter is estimating exposures about 1/3rd longer than the internal . Did you notice that I am in the second one as a sort of ghost image?

This one posted here is from the last outing and used the internal metering. It is also on Ilford C-41 B&W film instead of the Kodak. People were walking down the center of the lane but none stopped long enough to catch a clear image. The internal meter was exposing at about 15 seconds at f-22. The scene is the same as the second image of the previous post but from the opposite side of the lane.

Here are some of my 1st photos from my Lynx 14e.
1. Thanks to everyone posting images in this thread. It's really fascinating to see what people are doing with their various Yashica's.
2. Brad, do you mind sharing what film you were using? I really love the tones in your images.
3. I just recently aquired a Lynx 14 myself. Upside, the body and lens look absolutely brand new! I'm really amazed at the build quality of it. Downside, I haven't been able to get metering to work yet. Upside, I have a trusted source for specialty lenses that I've been using for over a year that is sending me a working shoe mount selenium meter. Hopefully I can add some images myself later this week.
4. My own Lynx has been apparantly sitting unused so long that the seals are pretty much gone. Can someone post a link to the G Man that I keep seeing mentioned in this thread? :D

Jester_rm

Being a rangefinder newbie, I'm not sure...cameraquest.com's info on the YF says it's a "...very nice combined life-size Rangefinder-Viewfinder with Parallax corrected 50 and 100 projected brightlines."

http://www.cameraquest.com/yashiyf.htm

That's really all I know about it. I don't have any of the original manuals...only the camera itself.

Edit:...OK, have run through a second roll of film, Kodak 400 this time. Better results this time for sure :)

Here's one from my 2nd or 3rd roll through my GSN. I have noticed a too fast shutter in low light situations (w/ tripod & cable release- still way underexposed).

This shot kind of suffers from the meter picking up only the light in the alley & missing the brighter light at the street- thus the blur. I still feel like I got lucky catching a cop car & still getting it in the frame.

Old photo, from 1999. Scan doesn't do the print justice. There is just so much detail in the photo.

I know, not a great photo by any means, but it was from the first roll I had ever shot with the camera. The rest of my prints are long gone. I am getting that camera back this week though, from a friend I sold it to 6 years ago. I can't wait!

Oh, Electro 35 GSN. Cannot recall the film, but I believe it was the Ilford brand color-process B&W.

Here's a few pics from the GSN I received this last week. Film is Fuji Superia 400. I normally shoot slides, but wanted to try C-41 film because I'm tired of waiting two weeks for processing by mail (and paying more). The scans from my Nikon Coolscan V looked awful (a nonlinear cyan cast, impossible to fix in Photoshop) so I searched around and learned of VueScan -- that did the trick!

I took the first pic around 31-32 years ago on a GSN. These are the actual colors that I took, no computer enhancement. The second one was taken in Kiev, a couple of years back, underneath the gigantic titanium statue referred to as Rodina, honoring the many Soviet soldiers who paid the supreme sacrafice defending their motherland during WWII. This was also taken on another GSN. If I recall, I believe I set the camera at F11 [hyperfocal distance for F11] and let her rip. Polaroid ISO 200 film I believe.

Oh - m'goodness. No need to thank me. I just come here to blab and rant about cameras. Do love the 14e though. Lots of folks don't like it due to its size but I really think it's something special. Metered manual and a very good 1.4 with fill-flash ready quiet leaf shutter? Parallax corrected view finder... C'mon what the hell else do you want from a camera? So it weighs a bit... BFD.

Anyway, another terrific shot, Newton rings and all. Glad you like the camera. Unlike restaurants, I continue to recommend them : )

Thanks Nick! tri-x does seem to be just right for it! :p You know, I don't remember names of the posters, but I believe it was some posts here on RFF that lead me to look for a Lynx-14, too. I admit it was much bigger then I had anticipated, but it never bothers me. When I later first held a Canonet, I laughed at how small it was in comparison--but what a brilliant little camera it is too!

Still fiddling with scanning from glossy contact sheets, and this one has too many compression artifacts, but it was a fun shot of my daughter with daylight from a north kitchen window, either 2.0 or 1.4 at 1/60. The curls on her stuffed dog and the stripes on her shirt have great texture on the contact print, and I liked the contrast in her eyes and hair. Still getting used to the camera.

I just got this camera. The photo is off the first roll. I'm kind of blown away by the quality of the images I'm seeing on my screen! And these are just the cheap Costco scans of cheap Costco film. I think I'm going to enjoy this little camera a lot. :D

Glad you're liking it :)

This shot from my recently acquired expired film. This film was the Konica VX400 that was 2 years past it's "use by" date.

I also used my Yashica Electro 35 GTN Rangefinder with this roll of film!

I like the whole notion of the photo, especially the fuzzy cacti and the fuzzy people juxtaposed. Well seen.

Tried to make eye contact with counter girl. My note says it's shot wide open, I wonder if it's true. Prefocused on different direction about same distance, then turned back, girl looked to my side and I snapped. Yeah, that's Lynx 5000.

Totally digging my new old camera. Bought on eBay, repaired, calibrated, and cleaned. Works like a champ. Loving the pictures coming back from this thing... even these with Walgreens 800.

Now that I've tested the camera, I'll use it a bit more seriously.

from a GSN. this might be my new low-light camera, replacing my hi matic e. I really like the bokeh, very smooth. Pictures like this are why I like film. Digital is just TOO sharp sometimes.

I stumbled upon this old camera store in a rough part of town while looking for a canonet. As I was looking through the inventory, my gaze fixed on this beautifully solid camera. The owner was selling it for roughly $60 in mint condition and with the telephoto and wide-angle lens plus viewfinder.

Here is a set from my first ever roll

Petronius, I've looked at the three images you put up. I've a set of Yashica RF's and love them. Never will sell because I'd only want to buy them again. ;D

After looking at the images you've posted I'm surprised at the detail on the parquet flooring in the first one. It's excellent. Seeing results like these makes me ask ... "why did you sell your Yashica?"

Jan, sometimes it´s better not to look back. Maybe I´ll start a thread some time: "the silliest sales I made"

Hah, I was gonna ask Jan's question too. :) Proof, though, that which camera isn't really as important as the person using it is easily found on Petronius' blog -- a HUGE assortment of cameras and excellent, evocative, images from nearly every one!

They are just really sharp lenses on those Yashicas. And great exposure metering too on the GS/GSN/GT -- maybe because of the stepless shutter?

Well, I'm down to 2 rolls of Ilford XP2, both in cameras. Last roll I bought in town was $9.99 for 24 exp!!! Awwwkk! Hope the Kodak will be a good replacement. I had stopped using it in the past but don't recall why. Since I scan for myself, applying little or no pp sharpening, I'm guessing it will be okay. The clue that made me suspect excess sharpening wasn't halos (easy to avoid) but the loss of the middle tones when highlights should blend in smoothly to middle-dark. The photo itself, is fine, though! No criticism intended.

Buy it at B&H, bulk! Roll yer own... I dunno - $2 and change per roll? Guessing. No way near $10 a roll. Get a bag full of spent 35mm cartridges and tape (I use 35mm green film splicing tape, that's a little hard to find).

yeah $10 a roll for 24 exp. just makes the mind reel ...

januaryman, no offense taken -- i didn't scan or post-process it at all, so must be Walgreens (or the film...but I think you'll be quite happy with it -- other than the color of the film base, I can't tell any real difference between XP2+ and BW400CN, but I haven't shot -THAT- many rolls of it either, so YMMV.) Very nice shot above -- nice tonality!
