For the price of a broken Electro, I'd just buy one of those which comes with a good case. My GSN came with an awful synthetic fake-leather original case which is flaking off the colour; however I've seen plenty of auctions with earlier nice sturdy leather cases, much like the ones that came with my Lynx 1000 and Minister D. They look great even when worn out and do a very good job.
Plus you get a parts-Electro as well.

Great shots everyone! I pulled out my GSN again after not having used it for a while and am really enjoying it :) Here's two from a few days ago on XP2:

And here is the first pic I shot with the MG-1, which came as a package special when I bought the GSN. (It's been sitting on a shelf, totally unused, since 1975, and although it's only taken about fifty total pictures in its life, I think it needs a complete overhaul...)

What I like most about color photography is the colors! Where can you find better colors than flowers?
This is from an Electro 35 GSN and Fuji Sensia 100. This is only the second roll of slides that I have used and only my third roll of film through this camera.
I have also been playing with my scanner (Canon 4400F flatbed) and I think I have figured out some good settings to get decent film scans. This is the best I have seen so far.

Nice pic! Well..pass the wisdom: I'm still not so happy with my Canon 8600f in terms of color. Some secret setting, or just some messing with the sliders?:rolleyes:

I think it is mostly just messing with the sliders. I still use the ScanGear software which came with the scanner. This last set of slides I used a bit of Unsharp Mask and grain correction (low) with Auto tone. For color I use the "Adjust tone by selecting black/white points" on a histogram of the preview. I manually adjust the Black/White points for each color (Red, Green, Blue). The color adjustment isn't perfect, but it gives a better starting point when editing later (I use GIMP).
I'm not sure that I have got it all figured out, but my latest scans (both negative film and slides) have seemed much better than I have gotten before. One might get better results from Vuescan or some other software, but I wasn't able to get acceptable results from the demo so I decided to stick with ScanGear for now.
Here are some more flowers.

I would say light seals at the bare minimum. Most likely the POD is a gooey mess as well...

A shot w/ the CC on Superia 400
Very cool picture! I really like it. But: The bokeh looks very odd (and far from beautiful IMHO). Is this normal for the CC at a wide aperture? The weird shape of the aperture diaphragm couldn't have anything to do with that, or does it? Do you remember the aperture value you shot this picture with?

It is easy to adapt to M4/3, with out any machining, you just need a right adapter and right tools, I used one day to convert the lens, I can show you some photos when I was adapting the lens ,those photos in my Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/xy9z/sets/72157623833920480/), I hope that can give you some ideas.

Yashica GSN.
2 problems developing the film.
1. I over-develop by 1 minute and 30 seconds due my child waking up suddenly. I had to concentrate on her.
2. I did not put enough fixer. Hence the lightness on the bottom of the photos. I still like the photos though.

Just developed the very first roll out of to me new Yashica GSN. Never used rangefinders because my PJ professor discouraged them all those years ago. Can't believe that it took me 15 years to try one... these are test shots from Battery, a part of St. John's, Newfoundland. The area was battered by a storm this winter and there is still a lot of damage visible. My favourite part of town.

...I really like this one and would you tell us how did you scan it, what scanner?
Thanks! I use a flatbed with 35mm/slide attachment (a flimsy piece of plastic that lays on the bed). The scanner is an Epson 2400 -the one i got from the RFF member gdi. I like it because, unlike other scanners I have used, it gives the options of b&w/color and an input for dpi (not a "150 or 300" option like some others.) Also, it has ended up cheaper and more workable than using a CVS scanned cd every time I develop! Highly recommended.

First roll. Looks like she works! :) Now on to cleaning the rangefinder / viewfinder... Oh, and I have a lens hood on the way.
I was sick and tired of dealing with my 5D. Great camera nothing wrong with that. Its just the bulk and the constant fight to override the computer in the black box. So I sold the entire kit. My wife (and me ;-) gets a GF1 and I am planning to purchase a Leica MP.
In order to get more feel for shooting 35mm film with a Rangefinder I refurbished one of my Yashica's exposed a roll of film and took it too the developer. To my horror I found the entire film covered with white specs and dust. What good is an expensive camera if the medium comes out like shhhhhhht :-(

since selling my GSN, I realize how amazing this camera is. Or, maybe I should say, how awesome the lens is. The camera is just too heavy to be practical; but, that guy on FlickR (I'm sure he posts here too) that took the Color Yashinon and put it on that Olympus m4/3 gives me hope. If I could find somebody to put that lens on a smaller, lighter body, that would be the perfect, economic alternative to a Leica.

You should try the GX. It's lighter and not at all larger than a M3 with a 50mm Summarit and the image quality is even better than with the GSN. Who needs a Hexar AF?

Sometimes I think the lens on the GX is even better than the lens on the GS or GT. The GX is certainly much smaller, lighter, and even easier to use. The viewfinders are about the same, but the GX has better metering due to the location of it's light meter, it's nice to be able to use filters (even the opaque IR types) without any fuss.

I have no ******* idea how the Yashica GX's existence has eluded me all this time. I literally have never stumbled across this camera, ever. It is pretty much what I described, "to a T."

Thanks Richard. I think about half the GX cameras in the "Let's see your Yashica" thread came from me. I like playing with these cameras, and I sell one or two each week on eBay.
Of all the compact rangefinders I have (around 100?), the GX is probably the best. The only camera comparable in quality and price is the Olympus SP. The Canonet QL-17 is also a great camera, but I think the lens and meter on the GX is superior. The only drawback of the GX is that it requires a battery to run, whereas the Canonet and Olympus cameras will continue to operate if their batteries die. It's a good idea to carry spares.

Hi,
all the people here talk about the 35 GS, GSN, GX, but not that much about the 35 CC. I really love it, and its the only small rangefinder i know that have a 35mm lens. I thinks its great, or is the GS series all that better?
Regards,
Denny
or is the GS series all that better?
Actually, it's probably because they are that much CHEAPER. I looked at ebay closed listings, and the CC typically sells for over $200! A decent GS will run $40-50.

Here's a couple from my mint black MG1. I use it with B+W mainly cause the light sensor in the lens makes using coloured filters easy. It's a smart looking camera IMO and very cheap. Probably the bargain of the Yashicas at the moment.

Here's 2 from my newly refurbished Minister III. These were to only 2 scans I was able to salvage when my HP scanner went belly up.
The day was bright overcast and all shots were handheld. The film was Ilford HP5 and was developed for 6 and 1/2 minutes in Ilfosol 3 developer at a 1 to 9 dilution. Images direct from the scanner with no manipulation.

Brian, that band picture is a classic!
Thank you! I was quite happy with how it came out. Its one of my first successful 35mm shots as I usually am in the 40mm-50mm range. I need to take the CCN out again soon. Getting too bogged down at work and am missing the good photograph weather. ;)
This Yashica forum got me thinking, I have not used any of mine in a while :( , so I got my 35CC out, disassembled it to clean some haze out of the RF window and shot a couple rolls with it today. I almost forgot what great cameras these are! I made a galleryfor my 35CC images, here are some samples: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showgallery.php/cat/820
Good forum,
Todd
Well, first post... here goes.
Todd - Make sure your film rewind knob is solidly attached! I recently put new light seals on mine, as well as an internal RF glass cleaning. Apparently, I didn't wrench on the film rewind knob tight enough upon reassembly and it fell off while using it over the July 4th weekend. Damn!
First shot is from the Wisconsin protests over collective barganing rights, and the second one is from a (very) small prairie burn in my backyard. I suspect both were shot wide open, on Reala 100

Yashica CCN, Delta 100.
This roll finally confirmed to me that the rangefinder is slightly off; the lens is backfocusing by about 6 inches. I attempted an adjustment last night but... um... I messed up. As I went to adjust it, I was looking at the top under a magnifying glass, figuring out where which screws to adjust.
As I was looking a bug - a centipede or something - came out of the camera. 0.o
I was a bit startled and jolted the camera. A tiny washer and small pin fell out. Not sure where they go yet. Everything seems to be working but i really don't like having parts left over after putting a camera back together. :|
And I really want to know why the heck there was a bug inside the camera. At least it didn't show up as I was looking through the viewfinder. That would probably be heart attach material.

I don't know how bugs get into cameras, but they manage to do so with regularity, especially here in Japan.
The little metal pin and washer is part of the flash PC socket, these sometimes come out in the CC/CCN cameras. It's loss won't affect anything. Some people prefer to remove the pin because without the pin in place, you can use fill flash without the camera slowing down the the 1/30th sync speed.

Thank you very much for your nice comment Mike! My Lynx 14 is somewhat unwieldy to shoot (heavy, meter needle projection is practically invisible inside the viewfinder, stiff shutter speed ring, intermittent meter switch) but the results I got from it filled me with joy: something that does not happen very often with my photography! :)
I can't help wondering what shooting with the 'over/under' indicator lights system of the Lynx14e must be like...

Here are some I shot last week with my new (to me) Yashica CC. I shot them at an alebrije (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alebrije) parade downtown Mexico City.
They're a bit over exposed because the camera was loaded with ASA 400 film and the morning was very clear and sunny. Now I now I need to keep some ASA 100 or 200 film to shoot in sunny days with this baby.
Low resolution scan at development with minilab.

Here are 3 from my Yashica 35 (f2.8). The lens is sharp, but in bright light (from whatever direction and with hood) there tends to be a bit of veiling glare (Leica glow??:)) on the bright parts of the picture. Anyway, the camera is a joy to use: a real mechanical oldie! Cheers, Jan.

Assuming you mean Electro. My first post-digital film camera purchase, and this was probably the shot that started a serious film problem for me. :)

Nice - your home processing has produced very similar similar tones to the results that I got from Superia 200 in my GSN, processed by a lab. I guess that you must be doing something right (or wrong, depending on your view of the average lab's processing!!)...

This camera spends too much time on the shelf. On a beautiful April day I put an ancient roll of Fuji Superia that I found in the bottom of a hand-me-down camera bag and shot it all at the quad of the University of Washington with the cherry trees in full bloom. Nice to spend an afternoon with an old favorite.
