I'm not sure if it is a LF RF (I don't think so) but how would I load a Voigtlander Avus 9x12cm (like this one: http://cgi.ebay.nl/German-Folding-Plate-Camera-Voigtlander-Avus-ca-1925_W0QQitemZ270137474913QQihZ017QQcategoryZ11717 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem )?

Would I need some sort of film back or such? Are these standard things I can buy "off the shelf", or are they specific for this camera?

I'd like to dabble in this format and I might be able to buy one in good condition for a reasonable price (less than 50 euro).

There are plate holders for that format (single-sided usually) and sheet film is still available (just about).

You'll need to search for the 9x12 holders, they're popular and few and far between, however some dealers have a stash waiting to be binned.

Thanks, Ash. I've been browsing eBay for "plate holder" and all I get are license plate holders. :)

Check out either http://nelsonfoto.com/v/index.php or http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/index.php to talk to a bunch of folks who can help you get going in the plate cameras. I think about them but in the end I always stick to 4x5 instead.

I've been tempted by a 9x12cm since they can be easily modified into a 4x5inch. Possibly with cropping, or with an extension back for full frame.

Then I remembered I can only use one camera at once, and I have enough for now :)
