That's nice. I need one like that with kids and dogs around. My equipment always gets broken on family trips. I've invested lots of money in Pelican and other hard cases so that stuff gets thrown in the trunk.
I like this Fuji cause its hard to find a P&S with a hot shoe. I think Oly has one and the Nikons have one (I guess the G series Canon have them too)

Number of similar cameras about - Ricoh makes some, even Vivitar I believe has one. This looks like it is quite durable, and in many environments, it would be ideal.

This a camera that is used by Japanese construction workers to take pictures of building sites and holes in the ground, etc.

Wish it had a faster lens. f/4.7? Maybe a faster lens would make for better low ligh tpics, though they probably want lots of depth of field for the pics anyway.

The max aperture is f3.3-6.6, 4.7mm is the focal length at the wide end:

This is a smaller sensor camera, so depth of field will be fairly large even at the bigger apertures.

Why on earth always those icky colours?! Why not simply black? What's with the silver and red, and patches black? Just the looks would make me put it back, if not the rest of the poor specs. For that kind of money ($800) I can buy a whole lot of cheaper yet better digital p&s cameras.

Another unattractive design that is destined for the scrap heap of history for here today-gone tomorrow P&S cameras.

I'm somewhat intrigued by Olympus' truly waterproof digicam, which was released a while ago; this camera seems intriguing as well, although the limited maximum aperture seems a bit of a problem, however high the stated sensor ISO.

My brother-in-law has an older Olympus 4mp P&S with weatherproofing, who has been seemingly everywhere from the South Pole to Baghdad with as a flight surgeon, even using the camera in the emergency room for case documentation ... after almost 4 years the camera is still going strong (though it does have its weak moments in terms of image quality)

but he is looking very hard at the 770SW for not only its toughness but also because its quicker than his D-580, he hates shutter lag but has learned to deal with it :) I keep telling him that he needs to write to Olympus regarding that camera as its gone from -38 F degrees to 110 F degrees within 3 weeks and has since visited Niagra Falls without a single hiccup, a testament to the quality of the camera
