View Full Version : No strap lugs on Fed 5c

Was just about to buy one when I realized that the 5c has no strap lugs. Anyone have one? How to you carry it? Half case? Which Im not fond of.
Any other ideas?

I'm using the case with mine. For now. I did cut off the top of it but I am also thinking of some other ideas for it.
I have asked my dad about making a side grip for mine--he is a very good woodworker and I'm looking forward to what he makes for me!--out of wood(maple most likely)that will have strap lugs on it and I'll carry the FED vertically.

but I haven't done anything about it so far.
Any one around here dealt with this guy? I seem to recall that he posted here offering this a while back...

Thanks rbiemer, for some reason that link is blocked for me gere at work. Will check it at home later. A wood sidegrip sounds cool I bet your dad could sell a few of those on a certain forum i know.

putting in lugs on the Fed 5 is straightforward, just as I described it.

The 5c im looking at does come with a case i guess i could use if i took the top off. Or maybe I'll get a gordy strap

whats the possibility that I'll get one with an accurate meter. The seller tells me it is working but cant guarantee the accuracy, fair enough.
Seller is hte Soviet camera store site.

If the meter is working it should be accurate, you need to try it against another meter or f/16 rule.

Convert the case to use a snap fastener or get a good cobbler to convert it, you may like the camera as is, and may want is as a shooter with a case option. Even the non LD lenses are ok lenses.

My personal theory is that the Fed engineers had two motives when they deleted the strap lugs on the Fed3b and all after.

1. Cheaper to make.
2. Forcing people to keep the camera in the case cuts down on complaints about light leaks.

The Kiev still had strap lugs, and the lugs on the Zenit reappeared on models like the EM and TTL. Like the Zenit was without slow speeds, the Zorki and Fed where without strap lugs. When a camera has strap lugs the leather case has sometimes to be modified to fit the lugs. Personally I like cases which can be used half, the leather protects the camera when traveling and I alway's store a camera in its case after use.
Putting a camera in a case doesnt solve the light leaks from the back or any other problems.
