Unicorns,

Leitz (and others) did special filters, small thread radius conical in section.

Hallo,

As Noel says, you need a special filter for the summitar. This is because the filter thread is recessed (it's actually 36mm) so a normal filter would not fit.

Do a search for a 'summitar filter' on eBay or check out Peter Loy in the UK - I know that he has some/one.

The Summitar has a tapered filter thread. Filters for it are not always to be found on eBay but they do show up now and again. You might do better going the Series VI route.

The other option is to find the adapter, but I've had an eBay watch out for that for over a month. The yellow 2 filters are quite common (check also with Tamarkin who had a great price on the folding hood).

That's the listing no. for a Leitz NY Summitar filter listed as "cloud"- looks like a skylight/ slight warming.

I got two original Leitz filters with the purchase of my Summitar. A yellow 2 and a UV filter. The UV filter has a light-yellow tint to it. I'm looking for the Leitz adapter to fit 39mm filters on it. Supposedly the adapter also allows for the use of the Summicron hoods without problems. I have a Leitz 12585H hood and although it works well enough the fit isn't snug and I'm always a bit preoccupied about it falling off.

"...thanks for the info, but i can't even find them in ebay."

I looked on eBay as soon as I logged out of RFF yesterday, and there were four Summitar filters listed.
