oh...wait...no okay, votes anre swaying. Unfortunately the worst of the bunch looks most like me.
number 2
use an orange or red filter to make freckels (sp?) less dominant.

(doesn't mind her freckles) but may try it in future.

i think freckles are great. i'd emphasise them rather than smooth them out. i always wanted freckles...

That's how I reassure my daughter, anyhow. She has lots in the summer, and they are beautiful.

2, 3, and 4 scream "myspace."
5 looks like 1, but with a tighter crop.
both 1 and 5 are nice in that they are just of the face, nothing else exists to complicate the image.
I'm going with the crowd, and saying number 1 takes it.
what camera/lens did you use for these?

ricoh GR, yes I had suspected they might! need to employ my tripod a little more-it was something of an impromptu thing.

um...like the slightly blurry one on the bed.......
Seems less posed and more like we are seeing a more natural expression

I would say #1 takes it. The thing over your left shoulder is a little distracting. The hair looks great in this one and definitely keep the freckles! Tighter focus on the eyes would improve it (as in #2).
I took a photo class a few years back and one of the hardest assignments was the self portrait.
Nice job,

Keep the freckles!
They go well with the eyes and smile!
My votes are one, two and five...
Self Portaits RULE!
Thanks for sharring!

Nothing wrong with freckels! That is not what I ment. I have freckels myself and have very pale skin. With some films the freckels look really dark on my very white skin, so I use the filters to lower the contrast and make it look more natural. An extreme example can be seen when you use photographic paper instead of film in large format photography. It is very blue sensitive. Skin goes white and freckels go black (made me look like a cow).
#five with a tighter focus and a blue filter to make the freckles really shine..§!
I prefer 4 (stance is most natural and composition draws the viewer in gently, it's a pleasure to view) but exposure needs major changes; then comes 2 (nice framing, space and balance, not to mention the expression); I don't think I understand 1 and 5... honestly to me they appear to be snapshots compared to the rest.
number 2

Actuelly, try a green filter - more flattering than the orange/red. Otherwise, I like 1 and 3. Three shows some environment. And, I like freckles too; really had a lot when I was a kid (of course I was a boy).

1 & 4 for me (just a shame about the lack of contrast on 4).
Good to see another Ricoh GR user. I can't praise the little ricoh highly enough.
Oh, and I too think freckles are ace.

I know I wish four would play to...there's nothing I can do with it now though I suppose?
A bit of levels adjustment in Photoshop Elements can help (hope you don't mind me messing about with your picture).

mmm I'm keeping one on the basis I think it's the best photo.
Four on the impression that it looks most like me.
i like number 4 the most. very natural looking expression and has some environment/context. the flare from the window light has robbed it of some contrast, sadly, but nothing a little photoshop can't help with.
I pick #2 for a sense of adventure and the light sculpting. #1 is nice, but plain in emotion and taking angle.
All are good, but like many here I prefer #1. Charmante.
Good luck.

Close tie between #1 and #4 for me. Actually, they're all very decent portraits!
I fully support number 1 and the freckles as well.
This brings the old question: What made this picture good?
Was the Photographer or the model?
:D :D :D

Number one looks like someone I would have a beer with. I'm with erikhaugsby that some of the others scream myspace, though what Ian did with the one is really nice.
After I finish this post I'm going to check if there is a W/NW for self portraits. If not there should be. IF we had one there would be less of the "what WE think you look like" speculation - though I admit I got a belly laugh from a few posts in that thread.
Do we think SP's should be done in front of the camera? Or are mirror shots OK? I do a lot of the latter to remind myself which lens I was using for a group of frames, and some of them have turned out OK. Thanks for bringing this up aliceelizabeth!

I gotta agree with everyone else. Apart from the little blur or off-focus here and there all of them are quite good.
Oh and yeah...the freckles are pretty nice, too!

First one works best for me (composition and tonality).

I like #2, but with the shadows a little lighter so your hair doesn't blend into your shadow. Cropping in just a little seems stronger to me as well. Probably I'm just quibbling, though.
Duane
I like 2 and 4...1 is great too.

No. 2 most impactful and best contrast, No. 3 most alluring.
