Hi All,

I want to get out and start using my new Jupiter 85mm LTM Black, which came back a couple of months ago, from Fedka's repair guy, who did a very nice job on it.

I notice that, from the focus-helical, all the way to the front mount of the lens, that there is now a -slight- amount of "play" or "wobble" in the lens. When I first got it, the focus was -very- tight (too tight, in fact) and very dirty inside, so I don't think the lens had ever been tamperd with :p .

Should I send it back to be tightened up? What do you guys think:confused:

Depends how loose - check out new SLR lenses and some compact zooms to see how loose they are (some are VERY loose and have a lot of play). If the images are OK I'd personally not worry about a bit of play.

Generally the difference is in the focusing helical. Once you remove the grade 30 yak snot grease, the newer and thinner grease leaves a little play. Not to mention the years of wear that are now going to show.

Thanks, Gents, for the information.

I think I'm going to like it :)

Unless, like the I-61 L/D I got on a recently-purchased FED 5, the grease is so dried out it leaves play anyway. Re-greasing gained an improvement but it's still just plainly badly made. The other one I have is far better.
