The Space Captor! Great name, I'll buy one on the name alone.
Good distortion, decent fall-off wide open, gets better at F8, what's not to like?
Oh, 58mm filter, at least that's the same as an early Noctilux (yeah, like Everyone's got one of those lying around, sheesh).
At least its not heavy. What about the hood? I see a bayonet fitting, looks like expensive hood solution to me.

"Space Captor" . . . Isn't that the name of the next Star Wars movie? ;)

The MTF curves looking much better than with the 4/18 Distagon of the Contarex/ Rollei/ Contax RTS era...

No doubt due to the 40-year difference from the Contarex era.

Based on the MTF, this D18 looks kill-ass: great macrocontrast. There is gull-wing distortion but it's just 1% (unprecedented for a Distagon). On paper, I still prefer the CB21 for its size and the FOV.

Anyone got an idea of when its likely to be generally available? Do Zeiss always torture us for so long, this was announced before Photokina I seem to recall :(
