What camera would you reach for, just for the fun of using it?

For me its the Bessa R every time.

Bessa-T. My favorite by far right now. It is a hoot to shoot.

I put a CV 15mm on mine and can't take it off. What a great street and candid shooter!

My black Olympus OM-1.

Yes, it's an "Honorary Rangefinder" :)

Pentax A110... pity the labs around here nowadays do such an horrendous job with 110 films.

You know I agree.

They are all pretty ... But the OM-1 and M3 do win on the fun/fumbling
side for me ... So different and yet so similar.

since you asked for favorite camera, no contest, my new Hexar AF. I'm not sure what it is. Not a rangefinder, and much more than a point and shoot. But it IS a true joy for taking pictures.

to be honest...my bronica and yashica win everytime, even over the leica and the bessa...there's just something dreamy about medium format slides (and I just bought a whole load of velvia50 too)

For simple pleasure, my folding Agfa 6x9 camera. No rangefinder on that one.

For simplicity and that crappy camera glow, my Lex35. It has been lost somewhere, though, and that greatly saddens me. I'm going to get another one.

For a walk, my Kiev 4.

Zorki 3m is my favorite shooter. Close second, the Arax 60 and Arsat 30mm lens.

Right now it is the R-D1 with the 40mm Summicron-C. When my new Upstraps come in it could well be the Contax G1 with the 21mm/2.8 'cause I love the lens. Call me a wussy but I have more fun shooting when I don't have to do ALL the work - AF not necessary but AE is.

I feel the same way about the same two cameras.

But, in terms of "most fun" I think it might be my Rollei.

I carry a camera all of the time -- either my M3, my OM-1, or my LX2 -- and just take pictures whenever. (I will admit that lately I carry my OM-1 or the LX2 more often than the M3 simply because they weigh SO MUCH LESS... the M3 is like an anvil in my shoulder bag.)

When I am going out specifically to "do photography," though, I find that I usually reach for the Rolleiflex.

Right now, the Bessa R. That's partly because I'm still learning its foibles, and my ability to respond correctly to them. I also, however, REALLY enjoy my Canon 300D and any of the half-dozen lenses I have for it. Form follows function, eh? Of course, my Canon 10s SLR is lotsa fun, and my newly-acquired Vivitar 35S is tiny, auto-exposes, and produces nice negatives.

Sigh.....

Hands down... it's my IIIf with the 50mm Elmar !

It always gets the snap... preloaded and preset !

Well, sometimes anyway.

I'd have to say one of my IIIc's and either the 21mm f/4 Color-Skopar or the 35mm f/2.5 Color-Skopar.

A present I have one fitted with the 50mm f/1.5 Nokton. That lens is huge on the IIIc!!!

Most everything I have is fun. For carefree Fun, the go-to camera, until it was dropped (and repair is delayed again, due to other priorities, but it's going to happen) would be my Ricoh GR1: its size/weight-to-quality ratio is scary-high, and taking it along – anytime, anywhere – has always been a no-brainer. in its OpTech belt pouch (with just enough room for an extra roll as well), it's my almost-unnoticed companion. And, it will be back.

Forty-five years with the same IIIf and the 50mm Elmar has to means something. But for P&S situations, my fifteen year old Olympus Stylus Infinity, I've glued it together and it doesn't have its face plate: it still works and well.

Got to be my IIIf with the Canon 50mm f/1.8 - for more serious shoots I grab my Bessa R3a. For the most enjoyable fun cameras in my kit, the old screw mount Leica's can not beat.

Right now it's a toss between my Welta Weltur and my Zeiss Ikon folders. Other times it is hard to say. The Canonet is fun, even the Super Press 23 is fun.

Whoa! where do you purchase the film for this one? it's not 135 neither it is 120, isn't it?

127 film. Freestyle sells Efke films in the size, but as far as I know that's the only way to buy 127 outright. You can always cut down 120 and spool it onto 127 reels, though the hassle might be too much.

Wayne R. Scott
06-02-2007, 16:09
Yes, I get it from Freestyle. I made a 120 to 127 film slitter out of an old 120 box camera and a 127 Brownie, a 1/4" bolt, razor blade and some nuts and washers.

My colleague's lending me his GR1s shortly. I've always wanted to take one for a test spin.

M5 w/50 summicron? Rollei 35SE? Contax G2 w/28? M7.72 w/50 hexanon? M7.58 w/35 summicron, ZM28 or 25? Contax TVS?

The tool does what it does- the exhilaration is in the shooting. I have shot with all the above in the last week and every time it has been a blast.

Contax T2 arrives in a few days!

My Kiev 4A. Even or especially without the meter, it just feels right when I have it up to my face. It works, the lens (J-3 or J-8) never ceases to impress me, and the thought that goes into even the random snapshot means I remember taking each and every picture when I review the shots.

My Leica IIf with the 5cm/3.5 Elmar is probably the sexiest and most fun of all my equipment, but I don't have any cameras which are no fun at all (except my digicam).

Uh Oh--Canon "new" F-1, motor drive, AE finder. All Class "B" repaired by Ken Oikawa. The sound alone of the camera in operation frightens the non-believers away--and yep, the M3 would be the second choice.
