Did you see that Canon 42mm cap going for 42,99 USD? Some people must be crazy (Leica cap went for 17 USD)...
Nevertheless, I'm notoriously short on RF 42mm front caps. Leica and Nikon seldom (if ever) have 42mm cap, or 40mm filter... My 2/35 has a bumped one, badly painted, which fits a bit too tight. My 1.5/50 came without cap, I have a nice plastic cap (Schneider Large format lens) for it, costs me 12 USD... The 1.8/50 again received without cap. Yes yes, no more new lenses without caps...(how take pre-owners good care of a lens without cap?... Use a UV-filter without reason instead of a cap, ha?) Sadly, the excellent fitting Voigtländer front caps have other diameters.
The situations on back-caps is better. I prefer the Voigtländer caps for quick changing lenses (mostly have at least one of my VL ultrawides with me), but my favorite Canon rear cap is the (newer) plastic "A" cap which fits best on everything except superwides.
What's your recipe? Buy cheap 135mm lenses for caps?

cheers, Frank

i don't use lens caps.
i keep the hood on the lens and the lens goes into my camera bag as is.
i have 2 canon metal caps, one for the 85/2 and the other for my 100/4, sitting in my cap box.(formerly gman's tea box)

rear lens caps, i bought a whole mess of metal (aluminum?) ones from gapjohn on ebay. i also bought his metal body caps. very light, seem strong and well made.

Frank, 'alex-photo' on Ebay has all kinds of 42mm slip-on caps, some with FED or Zorki on them, some blank, some black plastic, some aluminium; I use a black plastic FED cap on my Canon 50/1.8 - it is a perfect fit!
