I just picked up a 90mm f/4 collapsable Elmar-M in excellent condition with no cleaning marks etc and was wondering how this lens compares to other 90mm Elmars.

I enjoy mine for an "older" look in portraits, but my 90 Elmar-C wins hands down in terms of contrast and sharpness. The collaspable is a fine performer though and you will be quite happy with it.

I have a 90mm Elmar for my screw mount Leicas and consider it to be my best portrait lens. In fact it beats out my 90mm Summicron in that category.

Since it was cheap I jumped on it..

my example was quite sharp, lower contrast and overall an excellent portrait lens... not 'soft' by any means but rendered lines more gently than most other 90s i've used... it's decently compact when collapsed but very heavy...
