Hey all, I have a Summar which has 34mm filter thread. Im having a real hard time tracking down filters in NZ for it. I really want a red filter so i can do some infra red photography but this has proved to be even more of a challenge. What online shop would you all suggest could help me. M other idea was to find a step-up adapter but 34mm thread seems to be very uncommon

Cheers

I think you can use E34 screw in filters, or A36 push on filters. There also is a hood filter attachment thingy, I forget the product code, which I think may be useful. This is getting deep into Leica accessory minutia though.

Just as curiosity, does anyone know when they settled on the 39mm mount? That's what all three lenses for my M4-2 take.

For those who claim that filters degrade image quality, can you therefore answer WHY does Leitz make such items, given the quality of their lenses? I belong to the school that says a filter costs much less to replace than a (Leitz) lens, so I have a Leitz-made filter on each of the three lenses.

How about a Series VI filter adapter? The Series VI adapters and filters are still readily available on ebay.

Just off the top of my head I don't know of any lenses prior to the 50 Summicron which have a 39mm filter ring. What about the 35 Summaron? If this is correct, the answer may be 1953.

True, a Series VI retainer with 36mm push on ring ( I forget the US empirical measurement).

34mm to Series VI rings are out there. I have 2 or 3 for my Canon 35mm/2.8 lens plus a Canon Series VI hood. Works like a charm.

The SOOGZ ring will clip on a 34mm filter ring. Then you can use 39mm filters and the Summicron hood 12585. Should work great!

You can buy a 34mm from Hoya that will fit your Summar. I have a Hoya UV filter on my Summar. They sell on Ebay or you can go to them directly.

Used Leica A36 filters are much easier to find than 34mm filters from Leica or anyone else. Work fine on the Summar.

Even B+W only make "clear" and ND in 34mm. Nothing shows up in the Black and White category at B&H in 34mm.

Try the Filter Connection at www.2filter.com .

They have several 34 mm step up rings listed as well as a Bower 34mm UV filter.
