View Full Version : R'flex light diffuser...one size fits all ???
I am seeking a light diffuser for my 3.5E...is there more than one size diffuser or did rollei only make one that fits all the meter rollei's ?
I found a vendor that has this description:
Incident light diffuser (ROLLEI F)
what does "Rollei F" refer to...the F model camera meters ?
thanks
What light do you want to diffuse and to what end? I cannot understand what you mean, and it is possible that others cannot either.

He means the light diffusion attachment that will convert the meter from taking reflected light reading to incident light reading instead,

Dan, I've always assumed there were subtle differences in the size of the meter window, so that e.g. a 3.5E meter wouldn't take a 3.5F diffusor. Too bad -- these are not cheap. There are some aftermarket ones you can get on eBay, but tellingly they seem to be labeled like the one you've come across, model-specific.

Oh, is that what that thing is for?
I guess this means I've been taking reflected light readings all this time. Seems to work. I usually don't even bring the diffuser with me -- I'm afraid I'll lose it.
(No it is not for sale.)
Clarence, thanks for the - er - light.
Three decades or so ago I made an attachment for a hand held meter which allowed it to be used for incident light readings. A portion (rather less than half) of a ping-pong ball with just enough Indian ink spots on the inner surface. The "spotting" needed constant testing, which was easy, but attaching the thing was hell. In the end my girl friend, who used the meter, just glued it on. Inelegant but functional.

Never having handled one of these, I always wondered how securely they stayed on the camera in the first place.
To answer the original question it appears that there is only one size of diffuser. I have one for a 3.5E and it fits the F & T models which have slightly different name plates. The mounting pins appear to have exactly the same spacing as the earlier models. I don't own a working F model, but I checked using a parts carcass that I got from ebay that still has the meter cell and mounting pins in place.

Nick, the diffuser snaps into place quite securely, but it's thin plastic so would no doubt wear out after a bit of use.
