View Full Version : Possible Kiev Camera spotted in TV advert...

While watching cable TV last night I saw an ad for New Zealand tourism. What caught my eye first was this incredible woman in a lime green bikini in a lush semi tropical setting (never mind that guy in the scene). Then I noticed she had a camera (can you see where I am headed?). Then in a close up, she is taking a picture of some exotic flower. I noticed the camera had no wind lever (two burley aluminum Knobs atop a satin chrome body cap), that it wasn't digital and it had the look of a kiev 4a. It had that angular body form of the Contax/Kiev family. Could have been a Contax for all I know, but the ad was short and the face of the camera wasn't shown.
What is funny here is that I became more interested in the camera than the lady. Funny how a hobby (read obsession) can affect one's perception.
Some time ago German building supplies chain OBI had TV commercials with a Kiev; and in some late 1990s National Geographics magazines (German edition) there were ads by Neckerman (travel agency) featuring a picture of a guy in a Hawaiian print shirt, with an Iskra around his neck...

I heard that a Kiev is visible in the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun". Anyone seen it?

Same as the Argus in the Harry Potter movies...

I haven't seen the movie, but one of the Polish tradesman uses a Kiev w/ meter.
The Argus C3 in "Sky Captain" was quite central to the story... Gwyneth Paltrow uses it quite a bit.

Hi Kin- what a funny coincidence, I was about to rent "Sky Captain" just to see what they used for cameras in that flick. Knowing that the director went for a "future 30's" look.

Lucky me. I work part time at a movie theatre and got a big cardboard Gwyneth sitting with me right now.

Yes, that is correct!!! There is a scene with some of the workers who are renovating the house, one of whom is a young Polish guy, and he's taking photos with a Kiev! It's very clear and the scene lasts long enough - a few seconds to get a good look at the photo.
Otherwise, it's a very fine movie- a good story, well acted, very good cinematography
