hi,
not that much happening in the M8 forum these days... :( i guess everyone is out having fun with their camera instead of sitting in front of the computer whining about their M8? :p thats a good thing!
can we start a thread so we can all enjoy all the nice pictures we're taking with the M8? thanks~

I would post some pics but the M8 and three of my lenses have been in Solms for about 6 weeks to fix focusing issues. I hope to God that they are also encoding the lenses. I have been keeping my mouth shut for a while but am starting to get antsy!
Nice. If I'm not mistaken that photo looks like it was taken in Seoul?

i live in seoul :) you too?
Yeah I'm in Seoul. Is your photo taken in Kang-Dong? I could tell it was taken in Seoul because of the way the buildings look and the crane. I should be getting an M8 in mid-April from my dealer in Chungmuro. I'll post some photos here. Btw did you buy your M8 in Korea?

Ha! I bought my MP from Bando and am currently on their waiting list for a M8. Great people. I've been going there quite a lot these days; toying with their demo M8. As of now, they're currently waiting for a shipment from Solms in mid April. Can't wait to get mine. Their price for a new M8 is almost $500 less then the average price in the states. I look forward to seeing more of your photos.
I've had lots of fun with my M8. http://johnwashington.co.uk/blog/index.php?showimage=907

I've been going to the dpreview Leica forum quite a bit to look at photos. Interesting as well, as was predicted, people over there have discovered film Leicas and are posting those pics as well, and they are pretty happily received. Steve Huff posts quite a bit there. They need to come HERE though :)
This is one I like in colour and BW both. CV35/1.7.

These all look so good. Thought I would jump in here with a few of my B & W's. I am shooting mostly in China and cannot put down my M8. It all I wanted to do with my M6 for years.....and now so much more. This shot is not nearly as clear as the ones above, but it was raining and misty....love to shoot in poor weather conditions though. My first post here with a photo...

Tim, the photo needs to be loaded somewhere online. When making your post, click the Insert Image button (yellow mountain and sun above the text box). Add the address of the image in the box that pops up and you should be good.

The pelican was patiently waiting for handouts from fishermen on the pier. Taken near sunset, but no flash fill lighting. I did use the fill feature in Lightroom when processing the raw file to compensate for the underexposed foreground.

Cindy, it was a nice photo, the way to have it show inline is just to type: [ img ] http://www.the-site.com/your-picture.jpg [ /img ]
But then remove all the spaces...
That will load the linked photo inline in the thread.

Pbase might not let you hotlink from their site. I am going to try with your image, just to see if it works. I will take it down in a minute or two:
Ok, I took it down, but it worked for me. Just take the image address from pbase: (http://www.pbase.com/cindyflood/image/76874504/large.jpg), and put it between the two img tags. Make sure that you close the second tag (make it /img inside the brackets). Other than that, I don't quite know what to say. There are always tiny little mistakes that will prevent the picture from being shown.
I am astounded at the quality of the images this ting can produce. The sharpness and color rendition is brilliant. Damn now I am going to want one.

Here is how to link from pbase (need a paid account):
Direct linking to an image for use on another website, forums, or message boards:
Due to bandwidth costs, you can only use this feature if you have paid.
This works just like linking to an image page but append .jpg to the end of the URL.
example: www.pbase.com/image/image number.jpg
example: www.pbase.com/image/image number/size.jpg
Note: to direct link to a .gif, use the .jpg extension also. It will still send the gif file.
The number in the image URLs is that photo's image_id which is a unique number across the site. You can find this number by viewing that photo and looking at the URL in your browser's address/location bar near the top or by holding your mouse over the thumbnail for that photo, and looking at the URL in your browser's status bar at the bottom.
IMPORTANT
Please use only the hostname www.pbase.com or pbase.com in your URLs. These will always work. Other hosts such as image2, genjaro, www2, ji, or anything similar might work or seem to work at first, but are server specific and may become invalid as the site hardware architecture changes. One goal of pbase is to never break incoming links to the site. When changes are made to the URL structure, the old ways still work. But for this to work, you must use the official URLs as explained above.
Test pbase link:

Great images, all of them, especially Mr. Steenkamp and Stuart's.
I was worried that by acquiring an M8, I would have to shoot stuff, out of focus, heads and feet cut of, with a lot of glare and moving the camera as I press the shutter, preferably on a angle, :-), just kidding.

i like this club :)
It's a great club. The 75 lux draws more beautifully than almost any other lens I have ever used. The only ones that I know come very close are the Zeiss 110mm f/2 planar for Hasselblad and Rollei and the Canon 85mm f/1.2L (FD version).
Here's an old film shot demonstrating the awesome interplay of sharp and unsharp that characterizes the lens:

contrast is amazing on this lens. i've only shot it for two days but right off the camera the jpegs look amazing. especially in low light, contrasty, situations, i'm continuously being awed by this little wonder.
and its so small! i've been using my 135/2 L and 5D for my telephoto, and not i've traded the 135 among other canon lenses to pick the 75/1.4. its so small and discreet with my M8, i feel almost naughty taking pictures with it :D

Nice shot scho...how did you get the filter to stay on there, or did you just hold it?
I used the "O-ring method", documented here:
http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/20026-uv-ir-cut-filter-cv-15-a.html
Basically, you just need a 39mm UV/IR cut filter (either Leica or B+W 486) and either an appropriate size O-ring or tape to friction fit the filter into the builtin lens hood on the CV 15. Tape is easier but you have to reverse mount the filter so it does not contact the front lens element.

Hi all,
This is my first post here, although im a long time lurker.
Here's one of my M8 shots.
28 ultron, iso 640, 1/30sec. forgot the aperture.
Go easy on me, but input and critics are appreciated.
The guy is Tukang Nasi Goreng, basically a door-to-door street vendor, selling fried rice and noodle. He's preparing all the ingredients with his left hand and cook the egg with his right hand. Talk about some serious multitasking!
The street is really dark with some light rain (covering my m8 with an umbrella), and illuminated only by his lamp.
Edit - Btw, how to display the image properly? I cannot make it bigger.

Thanks naos, those are fish-meat ball with different flavor. Sounds/Looks yummy already...hehe.
Yes indeed, M8 is my first RF, after using Canon system (since A-1) for a long time. Take up photography again after a long period of inactivity. Also carrying a heavy load each time to shoot was not fun anymore, so when I start lurking around various photo forums again, the excellent pictures got me excited again. From these discussions I learnt about M8, and after a few months of debating/saving, here I am...
I was using 21/2.8 Elmarit for all those shots. Just start learning about PS as well.
Thanks again.

Thanks Steve. I used 2 lenses in this set (my only 2 M mount lenses) -- a ZM 28mm and ZM 50mm Sonnar. All processing was done in Lightroom and Photoshop. The only thing I do in Photoshop is desaturation, global exposure control, and local burning/dodging (using curve adjustment layers with a mask).
Out of interest, the 8th photo in the set (Summer Isles, Scotland III) is an infrared shot using a B+W 092 on the 28mm.

Your shots really are a great advertisement for Zeiss glass! Steve, it was shot at 1/8 sec, ISO 160, and on a tripod. I was pleasantly surprised with the sharpness of this one. Most my other IR shots, even with the camera on a tripod, are not as sharp.
I use the default preset in LR with sharpening turned off. I then mess around with the settings on an image by image basis. This is for the images I want to take to black and white print, which isn't too many. Once I have a decent histogram, I export to PS and do the rest there.

The Museum of Modern art has a current exhibition of the work of the popular sculptor Richard Serra. I happen not to like his work, but accompanied my father to MOMA the other day, and found a way, thanks to my M8 and 35 'lux, to make Serra's work more interesting!

Tony C.

Out of interest, the 8th photo in the set (Summer Isles, Scotland III) is an infrared shot using a B+W 092 on the 28mm.
That is also my favorite one, rock'n stuff John!
Have you made any large prints from these and if so, how large do you feel comfortable with?
I just got done scanning a shot on Techpan in 6x9 to do a comparison to the same image from a 5D..... there is no contest, the 5d is limited to about 30x50 while the Techpan shot could easily go as big as 8x12 feet at the same apparent viewing quality.
I have an M8 on order, look forward to toting it in the high country.
Great stuff all around though!!
Here is a small sample of the Techpan shot.....
I am impressed by your tonal range (though the shadows between the logs are very dark, are they pure black?). I could never get techpan to look good at all. I would have awful negs, albeit with no grain.

Thanks!
The shadows are just about pure black, I use my 9000ED full tilt, 16 bit, 14X , glass holder, etc.
The thing with Techpan is knowing that you have the wonderful opportunity to exploit it based on the characteristic of it having narrow exposure latitude for pictorial use. What would ordinarily work against you clearly spells out that in certain situations, you are not going to get a very good result and will get outstanding results in others.
In other words, this film is one that you assign a camera to permanently, to only shoot it in ideal situations like the somewhat flat light that I gave it. I do not experiment with the darkroom, I keep that very, very consistent.
I only have 103 rolls of 120mm & 150 rolls of 35mm Techpan, I intend to shoot it very selectively over the next 10-15 years on niche subjects much like John's hauntingly wonderful scenes of the Scottish Highlands.
But really, not to hijack the thread, I look forward to creating my own signature style with the M8 and I have to say that this particular thread of images is about the best collective of imagery from the M8 I have seen thus far.
Everyone on here ought to be very proud of how well they have portrayed what the M8 can do in the right hands.
Well done!

I love the car shows, wish I had more time to get to more of them in my area. I was fortunate and had access to a Lamborghini for 2 months! Wow, I am lucking to be alive. The "hardware" exceed my abilities as a driver and you could get into trouble with ease!

Founder of Patagonia Clothing, Taken today...M8, 50 1.4 aspheric, iso 640 @ 1.4 1/125th...
The last light as it started to fade out of a fountain in Aspen last night.
M8, 50 ASPH @ 1.4, 1/6000th, ISO 160....If you look at the 100% frame, the 50 ASPH clearly out resolves the M8 sensor. This is with *zero* sharpening or noise reduction in ACR-4.
I also shot some of this on Kodachrome 25 with the same lens...:D

American Strat?
I had a japanese one that was really fantastic - but theres something about the made in USA ones that you don't get in the asian and mexican versions
Yeah...a special edition strat that was refinished (who ever refinished it did a fantastic job, a perfect thin nitro finish, it really breathes) Then I dropped some fralins in it and it's incredible.
Plus I got it for 400 after the refinish, which is an absolute steal. I guess the racing stripe is a turn off but the guitar is perfect.
The Japanese are fantastic, great workmanship, you can get a great strat for not a lot of money regadless of origin.
I will agree that there's something about the ones that come out of the american factory that makes them special. My shop got some incredible Masterbuilt strats that were a dream to play. I almost bought a John Cruz masterbilt in olympic white many times over.
I could ramble on about this for days if someone doesn't stop me...
