QL19, low contrast problems

The rangefinder patch on my QL19 has very low contrast. Is there any quick way to increase the contrast without a CLA? Perhaps some semi transparent material I can place over the rangefinder window?

Bingo. A piece of a plastic ND filter works well.

The most likely cause is that the silvering on one of the mirors in the RF mechanism is coming off. The only fix is to replace the mirror or have it re-silvered. Much cheaper to buy a junk QL and replace the mirror yourself, or you can have a pro do it if you are uncomfortable doing it yourself.

Whisper, that looks like a very easy fix, and since I don't yet have a ND filter, I think I'll try that instead. Thanks for the link.
