Not knowing much about TLRs, but enjoying my Rolleicord and becoming a bit obsessed with photography, what do you all think about this?

Seem like a decent deal?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Run a roll and ensure that focusing works for far and close objects, and that the plane of focus is parallel to the film (shoot a wall). If all these are good, and what he is saying is true, you have a keeper.

It seems a bit high, but make him an ofer (less than asking price) as he has sugested that himself. It is a very good camera and excelent lens, and the upgraded screen is a good thing. Good luck.

I own the Xenotar version of this, and its a fine camera, and a wonderful shooter. I'd agree with the idea of a slightly lower offer, but the new screen will be a great asset.

Thanks to all for the advice.

Daniel -- my major gripe is the screen of the Rolleicord (IV). It is not impossible, but difficult to focus indoors or with low lighting. I originally thought about replacing the screen, but the Rolleicord film advance is rather stiff also, and I did not want to sink a lot of money into it if I could find something in nicer condition with a better viewing screen. But I'll look into the Rollegrid which I was not aware of.

I've never seen a Beattie screen (or a Rolleiflex for that matter), but I thought I'd try to meet the seller to take a look at it to see the improvement. I was not aware of the weight issue, so thanks for the heads up.

Do you think the Beattie screen would me a marked improvement?

Beattie screen is a marked improvement. I have a Maxwell screen, same thing.

The screen is a good addition to a great camera, but the price is about $100. too high.

Thanks all. I corresponded with the guy who placed the ad, and was trying to set up a time to see it, but it sold in the mean time. I had offered $500 even. Maybe next time. I have been trying alternatives to the bay as it seems to be more and more businesses, and less and less regular joes.
