VisoflexIII, no bellows. The simplest lenses work best. 50/2.8 Elmar M and 4.0-135, just into the Viso mount. All are handheld with natural light, no flash.
DNG conversion in C1LE, PSE5 for crop and websharpening.No other post-processing at all. The "darkroom" work took me just six minutes. The shooting rate, btw was close to 50%, more than I get on my Canon 10D with dedicated macrolens and ringflash. This is miles better.

I am clueless about the VisoFlex. What constitues a full system, how does it work, and how much should one look to pay for a used one?

That asks for a book rather than a post.
1. Al Visoflexes are used, it is not a current product.
2.The only Visoflex that works on the M8 is the III
3. Prices are all over the place, I got mine for free with a couple of lenses, Ive seen them on stealbay for 300$, my dealer has a cupboard full of them and probably would give you three if you kissed his wife for him.
4. The most basic setup is the one I used above, just put your lens on the Visoflex.
5. The rest I'll cover later.

Very nice jaapv ... I'm not a big fan of macro flower shots but those are beautiful. Good use of the M8! :)

Since the M8 has a LCD screen, you are looking through the lens, right? You could just screw a closeup lens on the Summicron (or whatever) and focus and compose using this screen. No?

Err. No, Frank. The LCD is for reviewing and menus only. It is a rangefinder camera :p Seriously, the cramped space in th M8 body leaves no room to provide for the cooling of the sensor, which is a real issue for larger sensors. Even the Canon 1DIII which is the first large-sensor camera to offer live preview with ample space in the body to provide for cooling fins and such, switches the feature off after a limited time just for this reason. If you go to astronomically used sensors, where exposure can run into hours, liquid nitrogen is used to keep sensor temparatures down.

Thanks Jaap! Just goes to show that you can learn something new every day. I assumed that the M8 LCD screen acts like my digi cam's screen with live viewing.

I think I'm going to find your dealer. He's living in Hellevoetsluis also??

Camera Express had at least three Viso III's for sale, I noticed today.
You'll have to wipe my drool off the display case.Lots of rings and other Viso accessories... He has good amount of very interesting used M and R stuff, half of it not even displayed. I noticed a couple of CL boxes, suggesting mint CL's inside. Two Leica 200 mm viewfinders, an old turret viewfinder, etc.An A+ SL2, a demo R 80-190APO vario, loads of R and M bodies. Numbers of other lenses, A Leica treasure house...

Stunning Jap. These images show the strength of the M8's IQ as compared to other digital cameras as well as any I can imagine. First rate and a significant cut above I'd say.

That is correct. If you want something specific, you'll have to mail/call them. A lot of their interesting used stuff is not on their new internet site (yet)

Who is deeply attached to his Viso III, 65mm Elmar, 200, 280 and 560 Telyts but has just found an adaptor and a black SLmot. Feling a bit of a traitor...

Am I missing something? Does the MEM90/4 not work? I know it may not give greater than 1:1 magnification, but surely taht's pretty good for a rangefinder?

(ps. Wouldn't the VLux be a better/easier option for macros?)

It would- if it had a 1.33 crop sensor and the pictorial quality of the M8 - and if I owned one....

The MEM90/4 does indeed work with the macro adapter; I am fortunate to own it. My understanding is that the highest ratio attainable with this combination is 1:3. I am wondering if this lens can be used on the visoflex III as well with or without a bellows to achieve higher magnifications.

You quite right. I used a visoflex III with my mem 90 to achieve approximately 1:1 magnification. I am going to shop for a bellows now.
