I have bought a Summaron 35 mm (payed 30 euro), with an internal glass element broken near borders
The lens however works well full wide too, at f4 is impossible to see the broken glass
Do you think it is possible repair the lens changing the element? Is it convenient sending it at Wetzlar ? Many thanks! Mauro Italy Rome

Elements are not necessarily interchangable lens to lens.

Are you certain it's broken? Sometimes cement separation between two elements at the edge looks like a thin line starting at the edge in one place and arcing over to the edge at another place. I once had a 90 Elmar that had that, at the advice of a camera repair guy put the lens in an oven at 200 degrees (Farenheit, not Celcius!) and it disappeared and hasn't returned in almost 10 years now. I'm not advising you to try that though!!! But I also paid very little for my lens and risked it. If you can't detect any problems shooting it, there really isn't much reason to fool with it, is there?

For what you paid for it, I'd be happy with an F4 Summaron.

And, for what it's worth, the lens performs much better from f4 on anyway.

So what would be the going price for a 35mm summaron in nice, user condition without the cracked glass? 200 euros?

It is true that some elments are not interchangeable. The manufacturers "tweak" the formula throughout the production run. I've swapped some elements on a Summicron 5cm F2, but was careful about the serial number range. Leica did a lot of tweaking.
You mean within the same "version" serial range?

300 until 400 euros, in good conditions...
