I saw this yesterday in downtown Seoul. Is it a good deal or not?

Thanks for comments/ replies.

Freestyle sells some under the Arista name pretty cheap.

It is definitely a good deal. Fomapan 400 is produced in Czech Republic and you can get here in retail shops for 3.74 US Dollars. (approx 80 CZK)

Max:

Thanks--I'm gonna get some, especially since J and C Photo in the USA is repotedly a now dormant business.

By arista.edu Ultra 400 from FreestylePhoto.biz.

this is the same film as Fomapan 400 from what I hear and read.

I think the film is too contrasty and grainy for many uses, but that depends largely on your methods of development. It makes a great gritty film.

I generally go by Tri-X 400 in 35mm, but I've found fomapan 400 the perfect film for the microraion project photos. Gives a "dirty" industrial look maybe ? I don't think all the photos are grainy, though. :)

Max, do you mean that Fomepan is more expensive in Prague than in the US? How much do you pay for Tri-X down there?

I've added a few rolls of Fomapan100 to my Freestyle order because someone said it's quite similar to APX (which is ridiculously expensive nowadays with the Rollei name on it) and I'm looking forward to trying it.

At FotoSkoda, it's 85 CZK for either TX400 or Fomapan 400 36-135 :)

Mail order Tri-X here in Norway is 43NOK (150CZK!)

Arista Edu.Ultra (Fomapan) is about $2.50-$3 or 50-70CZK including shipping, VAT and customs fees if I buy it from Freestyle.

I was suprised Fomapan was so expensive in Prague too - it is cheaper to buy it here in the UK (www.retrophotographic.co.uk) (although exchange rates have gone a little mad).

I've got a couple of bulk rolls of Fomapan 100 in the freezer.

My sister happens to live in Prague and I asked her to buy some Fomapan 400 (120) hoping to get a great deal. She bought it at Fotoskoda and it ended up costing more than if I had bought it through internet, with for example fotoimpex.de

They are based in berlin and have good deals.

By the way, I also think Fomapan 400 can be quite grainy, though not always.
(I have only developed it with X-tol.)

I haven't used Fomapan 400 myself, but there's a shop here in Barcelona (Spain ) selling this film on 30 meters bulk cans for only 19.53 Euro. (and 36 exp. rolls for 1.25 Euro each). Maybe I'll give it a try..
BTW what differences are between plain Fomapan 400 and Fomapan 400 action ?

I'm happy w/ it. I like the "old" look, but not sure I get good, commercial development/ scans here in Korea.

I have no idea what the difference is--sorry.

Fomapan 400 and Fomapan 400 action ?

I don't think there is any difference, looking at some rolls I bought in Prague and some 'action' branded stuff bought here.
