Hi,
I am new to this forum, so here goes!
I have recently inherited quite a few cameras, one of which is a 1940ish Fed.
Just wondering if anyone has a spare collar that goes around the the shutter release as unfortuneatly mine is missing. It looks as though it should be the same as on my Leica II, from what I can make out from various pics on the net.
I know it's not an essential item, it would just be nice to have one!
The shutter seems to be working ok & I'm putting a roll of FP4 through it at the moment, so fingers crossed.
Cheers,
Colin
I may have a spare one. It cost me a tenner. A no-name one for a Leica. Have you measured the threads?
If it's the same size on the leica and the fed, then I'll see what I can do if it's still in a box of bits.
Ash
The Fed 1(, Zoirki 1a) and Leica threads should be compatible the Fed 1 style was similar to the early Leitz. Later cameras like a IIIc has a wider top.
Noel
Thats weird, the shutter collars I have, they fit both the IIIc and the Standard (which is definitely older than the IIIc was) ... but I also have a wider collar that fits nothing in my camera kit.
Ash
Sorry Ash explain lapsed, the threads are all the same, the outer shapes are different
- the Fed 1 is a clone of the leicia II, it is cylindrical
- the IIIc should have a finger rest shelf.
I think a standard would have had the cylindrical.
Noel
Welcome aboard Colin! Enjoy the FED!
I have a funnel shaped one spare. I was sent it in error (guess who), and then received a small mini-collar, which I decided suits the Standard better. I think the spare one looks very similar to the original Leitz III collars. It has a soft-release button in it, but that can be removed I think?
I'll dig up a photo sometime

Hi Colin,
Welcome to the forum. No FED1 sapres but I have several from a FED 2 if these will fit.

Thank you all for the nice welcome.
I have removed the collar of my LII & it fits well. Thank you for the offer of the funnel shape & Fed2 but unfortuneatly these wont fit - I have just tried the one off my Wife's Zorki. The thread is the same but the shutter button of the Fed is slightly larger & wont go through!
Oh well, I'm sure something will turn up.
On a happier note, I have just got the shutter working on my old Konica S3. i removed the baseplate & there was a "loose" screw jammed in the mechanism. I can't see where the screw has come from. The aperture, shutter speeds & meter all appear to be working ok, so time for another test film :-)

Which fed ! do you have (e.g. serial number) and what does the shutter button look like?
Noel
For Leica shutter release rings: try your local bicycle shop: they use pretty much identical rings for securing a tyre valve to the wheel rim.

Hi,
Thanks Seele for the advice about going to my local bike shop.
Noel, I have attached a couple of pics of my FED, there's also one of my LI (it's been converted to a III) which has the right collar on it.
Cheers,
Colin

Me Again!
I have been in anorak mode this weekend & catalogued my entire collection of cameras.
If anyone is feeling very bored they might want to look at my Flickr page & check out the pictures (not for their photographic merit - I know the background colour changes like the rainbow throughout! :-) )
