I would like feedback from RFF about my plan to offer 35mm-120 grain res scans with my Konica Minolta Dimage Scan Multi Pro. This remains to be discussed with RFF administrators. I may need to treat it as a business and pay dues...no problem.

Please note that the following are my offerings (prices will be posted in the ad if I go through with it):

1. 4800 dpi (optical) scans of 35mm and 120 c41/B&W/E6
2. 3200 dpi (optical) scans of all 120.
3. dusting and surface marks removal
4. Full res, uncompressed files saved to DVD or CD with a folder that contains smaller, web-postable files for quick use.

The prices will be broken down as follows:

1. By the roll (will scan only 35mm uncut or into strips of 6+) C41 and E6.
2. By the frame (all 120) and 35mm optionally.
3. shipping to return the negs will depend on the customer's interest in protection. Sending negs in an envelope is not always safe, but is far cheaper than sending in a box. Using a CD envelope is a good idea.

oh yeah...and 2 day turn around.

Do you mean develop and scan or just scan? I'd be interested.

oh...I wish I had the skills to offer development, but I would not trust my chemistry with someone else's pics. Scanning is something I can do well. It's hard to blow a scan if you've got the tools. Blowing chemistry is alot easier and far more disastrous.

Just scanning, editing, and archiving. The Multi Pro produces grain sharp scans at 4.8 DMAX and does marvelous E6 scans.

With the Multi Pro scanning 645 at 3200 dpi produces a 70MB B&W file or a 200-300 MB color file. Big enough to print any size you want.

I would be interested I am getting an Epson Flatbed this week...but it would be nice to have a middle ground between the flatbed and a full on drum scan.

Go here:

and see that the Multi Pro does a NICE job. Comparable to a drum scanner or the Imacon 646 for real world negs.

The V700 is really quite spectacular for C41 and B&W. Especially with the Doug Fisher holder. You NEED that. The epson holders are awful.

I would charge mere dollars for a 645 frame. If you have medium format scanned I would certainly save anyone on RFF alot of cash. 35mm is harder becaue you can have it scanned at those kiosks. But then again, the Multi Pro will produce really nice big, clear files.

Oh, and I just see in my messages that I HAVE talked with RFF administration, and my business plan is good to go - I may place a weekly ad in the classifieds for this service. I will pay $2 per week to place the ad. This is a fair price.

What I do NOT want to do is set a precedent of any kind. I just thought it would be nice to offer RFFers on a budget a chance at getting primo scans for a SMALL fraction of the cost of lab scans. Say..$5 per frame for full resolution.

Will you be using any kind of automatic dust removal? If not then I don't know how you'll be able to charge only $1 a frame for 120. It takes me at least half an hour to clean up a 6x6 frame when I don't use digital ICE.

Not $1. $5 for scan only. $10 for a print ready scan? All dusted, edges trimmed to the actual neg frame, straight horizons, etc. And it takes me about 15 minutes to totally clean a pic. I use a fine lens cloth and an air duster to clean the negs. Apply ICE3 to C41 and E6. Dust the B&W extra carefully and clone out the dust spots. I'm pretty quick at it. I've done it for about 450 of my own frames.

Media is included in the price if you order 3 or more scans.
