CANOSCAN 9950F OR Epson V700?

Help me out...not sure which one...either the canon 9950f or the epson v700. I need to do up to 4x5.

Get the Epson V700 - I have the Canon 9950F - I use it mainly for 4x5 scanning. It is OK but the newer Epson are much, much better. BTW if you only scan 35mm and Medium Format, I would get a dedicated film scanner, like a Nikon or Minolta. Flatbeds are not great for scanning smaller formats. I use a Nikon 9000 and it is absolutely great!

Where are you finding the Canon 9950F for sale? The last time I checked, it wasn't available from Canon USA's online store or from any of the major dealers. Info about it also has been removed from Canon's website; I thought it might have been discontinued.

I'm quite satisfied with the epson V700, although the mf film holders are sloppy, but the scanner can resolve the grain of tri-x easily... even fp4+ if i am careful.

I'm just getting started with mine. Do you use the Epson software to scan? And I agree about the MF holders -- can't imagine they will last long :mad: .

I use the epson software to scan, yes, mostly. Except colour negative film, where the silverfast se can have its advantage with the auto film base detection and colour restoration it can do.
But has no batch scan option.
I plan to get vuescan one day...i tried the tryout version,seems to be nice but has no colour correction and some other features are missing, features i'd like to see how they work.

Epson software's main problem is rthat it's faulty with the colour management, it cannot properly handle if you scan in any colour space other than the monitor's. For BW it's not a problem; for colour work though, i have to attach the colour profile manually (i scan in adobe rgb or in epson v700's own profile).
