It is a FSU 35mm finder ( no Bright lines ). that was meant for the J12. I also have a Helios finder that covers 25,85 & 135.

I like the CV75 very much. I've gotten some sharp shots out of it, but nothing worth sharing (my fault, not the lens).

Hey Doug,
What is that cute little one......and where can I get one to go with my XA?
Hi Larry -- It's an Elikon, made by Belomo in Belarus. I got mine from DVD Technik - http://www.dvdtechcameras.com/ But I see they don't have any right now. It's pretty clearly a copy of the XA, but the lens is unfortunately not as good, with some odd linear distortion near the corners. But it is cute... :)
My Kiev 4a from 1964:
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/4091/k01kz9.th.jpg (http://img187.imageshack.us/my.php?image=k01kz9.jpg) http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/5449/k03dm2.th.jpg (http://img178.imageshack.us/my.php?image=k03dm2.jpg)
I bought it in working condition for 25$. The shutter fails after 15 shots with first roll  . It was't opened since production. The second curtain stayed unhooked, one of the ribbons was near broken and the shutter mechanism was broken. The repair costs 10$ and now its like new! I love it.
Sorry for my bad english

 Wow, that Arax is gargantuan! How much does it weigh anyway? How are the ergonomics on that beast?
I've never actually weighed the Arax, but I'd guess 5+ Kg. And the ergonomics(not a word I generally use when talking about this beast;) ) aren't too bad, in fact.
With the(much smaller) 80mm std lens, I'm confident using it hand-held in day light. I almost always use a tripod with the other lenses, though that 30mm Arsat is almost too much for the tripod I own. The controls fall f naturally under my hands and are easy for me to reach. And I'm not such a big guy. Definitely a two handed shooter!
I don't have a scanner to show you, but the photos are much better than the photographer(me).

The image was shot at 1/25th of a second at 2.8 with the J12. The occasion was the grand opening celebration of a new Chocolate shop in the neighborhood. The owner(the guy in the white shirt) and a local artist had created molds of people's hands and were un-molding the finished chocolate hands that were created from the molds. That is what everyone is so intent on.. Here is the finished product

Spyderman, the split rings, which are attached to a strap, actually came with the Z3 from the motherland. They have since been removed. The picture of the Z3 is pretty much how it came out of the box. The strap that is attached to the split rings is from my collection. The Z3 is strapless right now and gets carried that way. As you can see I got it for a whole 6.50$ I was happy it didn't go much higher than that as the shipping was a bit steeper than I wanted to pay. This one will eventually get a CLA and a repaint. Well the blame for the Zenith can be laid squarely at Mr Jay Javier's door - he has one on his site and I saw it and just knew I'd have to have one! Yes, it's one sweet camera, sort of honorary RF I think.
The FED 4 hasn't been used yet - I have several other cameras in the queue to be used first! I think I perceive the rewind issue though. It needed the VF/RF cleaning but otherwise seems good. The FED 5B is an olympic version and needs new curtains, otherwise in excellent condition (possibly *because* of the curtains!). Both needed the lenses re-lubing, unsurprisingly. The 5B is a little project for a rainy day I think...
To be honest I'm not keen on the looks of the 4 or 5, but I needed them to complete the collection of major FED models. Having said that, they are growing on me and the 4 seems to be a very good "user", plus they were both very cheap.

Hey comp_wiz, you didn't happen to take some digi photos of the Z3 CLA did ya? I really need to break into mine and I am stuck at getting the slow speed dial off.
One of mine, unfortunately the rear element of that lens is scratched, like someone took to a little patch (right in the centre) with some 1200 wet and dry.

To tell the truth I'm not sure if I still have them, but I'll try to remember to have a look see when I get home for it.
If I remember properly, I had a lot of trouble with that too, until I realized that the dial itself didn't need to come off. The little "knob" part can be removed, but that is only for adjusting the mechanism.

Zorki-6 with rigid Industar-50. My favourite lens for daylight shooting. It only needs a hood. Would 37mm fit?
I had to use a cellphone for the pics, since digital camera is out of juice. :)

Most FSU lenses take 40.5mm screw-in accessories - except for J-9 which is 49 and the collapsibles which can only take 36 (?) slip-on...
John Robertson
02-24-2007, 15:47
According to the official KMZ archive site the figures for the rigid Industar 50 are:-
Screw in thread
Индустар-50 -- СпM33x0,5
Индустар-50-2 -- M35,5x0,5
Push on sizes (outside dia)
Индустар-50 -- Ø36 мм
Индустар-50-2 -- Ø37 мм
The lens should be marked whether it is a 50 or the later 50-2
Hope this helps.
see
http://www.zenit.istra.ru/archive/lenses/industar-50.html
Further check would seem to indicate that the 50-2 was only made in 39mm screw for the Zenith SLR cameras, not the R/F cameras

Leitz A36 filters will fit, or copies of them!.
Trying to find 33 screw will be next to impossible, I had great difficulties 30 years ago, will be a lot worse now.
Your best bet would be these people. They are good to deal with. you can order on line.

On quick observation I noticed that the filter ring on the silver I50 seems a little smaller than on the black I 50.
I assume the black one is an SLR lens, then its a late 50-2.
Filter size is 35.5mm x 0.5 screw in or 37mm slip on.
Its the so called "flat face" version.
Dawn and her friend!Okay, John.R, now I'm seriously jealous. The black Russar is on my OOTD list.

Envious I hope, not jealous!!
Very good lens, usually an almost permanent fixture on the Zarya. Its not a r/f coupled lens so this is ideal. Sadly it wont fit my Bessas, nor strangely the Fed 2,it fouls the r/f arm. works fine on the Zorkis, I suppose after all its a KMZ lens, also OK on the Droog. Very handy it takes a 49mm filter. The finder has a neat parallax correction device.
nzeeman ~ Howzabout some thoughts on your Zorki.10 there. Good shooter or no? Pros/cons? Don't hear them mentioned much here at the FSU corral.
i got it a week ago as a present from my friend. i shot a roll with it but didnt have money to scan and didnt have time to enlarge. i also have 5 other films waiting for enlargement and scan. :( i hope ill do it this week and then ill send samples. but negatives look nice to me - great exposure - every shot was good. i was expecting a lot of mistakes it has a nice viewfinder/rangefinder- bright and accurate. really a fun camera, maybe a little too big. my only complain is shutter button which have so long travel you have to press it almost 90 degrees to shoot. :(

Nope, the black one is a rangefinder lens (seen on my Z6 somewhere in this thread). I guess they changed the size when the black SLR lens came out, so people could use the same filters/hoods on both.

Vulcanites a bit worn but at least it proves it's not spent it's life at the back of the cupboard ;) and the J8 is 1955 vintage but I'm pretty sure that it's not the original as the slow speed lock and the serial number on the RF housing rather than the back of the top plate suggest an early Zorki 3 but I could be wrong .
Paul
"...suggest an early Zorki 3 but I could be wrong."I believe you're right there, Paul. Before purchasing mine some time ago (Oct.2005 I think), I shot an email to Oleg and got his thoughts. Below was his assessment.
Q: Is this particular Zorki 3 just a very early position for the serial number or ??
A: Yes, absolutely... First Zorki-3 produced in 1954 may be marked with
short number on top cover. Such cameras may have other slow speeds
dial also with lock on 25 speeds (like Leica).

You just hold it up as normal but look over the top.
If you can see it, it's in the frame ( along with quite a lot else )
If you can't touch it, it's in focus.
This is the end product so it's not too representative as it has been heavily worked on, but the joy is that the mighty Mir can look down two streets at once.
Product goes out as PDF for print to A3, hence white frame. Ah. and the power pole really does lean like thet!

Hi... This is for nando, andreabianco and anyone else,
Is the I-22 collapsible 50... is it as good as the legendary J8?
Thanks, mike
Mike,
I feel that the I-22 compares very well to the lens it copies - the Leitz 50/3,5 Elmar. The advantage of the I-22 is it makes for a very compact camera when collapsed. I find the focusing to be very snappy. Great for street shooting but its a pretty slow lens for indoor use. I just got the Zorki and I-22 recently and I've been mainly using it outdoors at f5.6 and f8. The aperture ring on the inside is a bit of a nuisance but I just set it and forget it. I took a few shots at f3.5 and the bokeh wasn't too bad. I do not have a J8 but I have a J3 which is similar. I love how the J3 renders photographs especially wide open. It's one of my favourite lenses and its very sharp stopped down. Colour rendition is also very nice. It is very compact for such a fast lens but its no where near as compact as the I-22 when collapsed. In terms of handling, setting aperture on the J3 is much easier but focusing is not as quick. It wouldn't be a bad idea two FSU 50's - an Industar collapsible for street shooting and portability as well as a fast Jupiter for indoor and general use. That's my 2 cents.
Hi .
I hope that my camera pic will appear here ?

Mike,
I've used my collapsible I22 a lot, both with color and bw film, and I must say it's a very good and reliable performer. It also makes the fed2 much more compact and a joy to use.
You know, it is said that quality in lenses and cameras from FSU is often all about being lucky, but all of the equipment I bought in my life was/is workin perfectly. I also own a J8 on Kiev4 and another J8 on a Zorki4, and I must say that my I22 is not less good than 'em in many situations, at all.
See ya!

Theoretically the Sonnar clone should be better then a Tessar clone. You need a tripod slow film and a lens test chart to be sure of detection. At 5.6 the difference will Be difficult to see. Use a hood, that is the only easy thing to do. Brace off a pillar.

Hi, I'm a new user here due to my finding of a FED-4 in the back of a cupboard. I know it's not the prettiest, but it's all I have at the moment and I love it. The images are great and it's fantastic fun to use.

It was a big cupboard in the house that was having a load of stuff chucked out. Apparently my grandpa is a big fan of old Russian cameras and rangefinders in general and gave this one to my dad, where it has since lain dormant doing nothing. Which is handy, as it means the light meter still works *perfectly*. I'm going down to see my grandad sometime soon to benefit from his years of experience so I'll see what he reckons to it.
Owen
Sound more resonable, the Panda and the hood means you can get real good results, good luck, please try a kodachrome 64 or Fujichrome 100 - prepare to be amazed.

No, it is a standard chrome FED-5. I see what you mean, but this is caused by insufficient light, I guess - not to mention my lack of skills with digital photos.

Industar 61 L/D on Zorki 1C body, both bought from Oleg Khalyavin but at different times. Oleg also adapted the 35-50-100 turret finder, made in Liechtenstein and marked "Argus", so that it goes in the shoe and stays there. The Industar is used on a Leica IIIc as well, and other lenses used on the Zorki are a Summaron 35/3.5, a Steinheil Culminar 85/2.8 and a Summitar. Function is important here, not appearance.

It's time for a laugh I think, so here are a couple of photos.
It's my new (to me) Fed-2! It came with the Fed-50 lens which was a bit stiff (mostly arperture), so I working it while watching a movie and it's much better now. It still really needs a CLA though to make it operate really smoothly.
But the screws in the lens were filthy - lots of blocks of dried lube which had to be cleaned out. The difference afterwards was a revelation! Now it moves smoothly and easily, better than some new lenses I've had! I've taken a test roll but need to get it developed first to see if it's ok. Looking through it, it seems alright, but the acid test is the quality of pics.
The camera itself showed capping but after running a spare film through and a brief CLA, it seems to be working absolutely fine. I had to clean some grime and dirt off, but it was fun (and surprisingly easy compared to Japanese cams) to take the top off. Curiously, the limits (lack of slow speeds and no exposure meter) seem to add to its charms.
But - a question for Fed-2 owners - I keep on picking it up and playing with it - just focusing on something, winding on and hearing the shutter release, or just handling it. Is this wierd or does every Fed-2 owner do this? Although the camera is awkward and old, it just feels so nice?!
btw - the pictures were taken with an old Praktica SLR with a Pentacon 1.8 lens and extremely poor light (just one floor lamp and the main light in a lampshade) so the lens was wide open - hence the enormous DoF (partially intentional as I haven't used the camera for years and wanted to find its limits) and poor exposure (all my fault). Apologies!
I have succumbed to a Zenit-S, a classic SLR built on the body the Zorki-1:). So not a RF in the strict sense of the word, but still having a fair share of Leica II genes. It'l be here tomorrow hopefully. Mind if I post its picture here??

Hi,
I decided to show off my J-9 collection that I assembled over the years. So far I have M39, M42, Kiev-Contax, and LTM mount J-9s. The movie mount J-9 and Kiev 10 mount J-9 are still at large. Like everything else of Russian gears, the early J-9 are somewhat closer to their Zeiss cousin IMHO. The 3 black ones are M39 J-9s. They are much harder to find than M42 version.:D I saw some silver M39 mount J-9s, but they are often in worn condition.

Here is my Kiev II collection(1950-1955). 1947-1949 and 1953 Kiev 2s are missing. I bought them when they were still cheap. The 1950 Kiev II with ZK 50/2 cost me about $20 in early 1990's. A good investment, isn't it?:) The most expensive one is a 1955 version with a J-3. The lens alone is worth the $50.:D

HuubL, that looks a very nice example. My Zenith C is in similar condition (photo on this thread somewhere). The cyrillic-lettered Zenit C I got recently is much tattier and needs some TLC, though it was cheap and it works. Do you find it easy to focus or not? I wear reading glasses and can't focus the cyrillic one very easily without them, though my distance vision is perfect. I'm wondering if there's any adjustment in the optical system and it's off a bit at the infinity end. I have no such trouble with an RF or with my Minolta SLR.

Hi Zhang,
I assumed the II was rarer because the earliest models were made in lower quantities. Princelle quotes production figures around 5000/yr for the early 1950's, but by the time they were making the Kiev 2a in 1955 production had increased to ~15,000/yr. That increase would more than make up for the shorter time that the 2a was made ('55-'59). Either way, the early Kievs are a magnificent camera & I only wish I could afford more than one of each model!

Hi Peter,
I agree to your assumption. The production number of Kiev 2 and 2a may be roughly the same. However, I saw more Kiev 2 than 2a in Beijing.

Just had my test roll back and it's good! The focus seems to be right and there don't seem to be holes in the curtain. The shutter speed seems to be just fine too although 2 pictures of the 24 were capped. After continually fiddling with the camera on 'B' after removing the roll, this doesn't seem to be an issue any more. Who said playing with yourself was bad, eh? :D
The Fed-50 collapsible lens is nice though a little flare can be seen when the sun is shining into the lens around midday. It seems very nice and sharp wide open at f3.5, less so (but not much) when stopped down a little more.
Overall, I'm impressed and will be taking it with me when I go abroad next week. The Fed 2 is just too charming not to take and it seems to be begging to be used.

With 2 days of rain outside and an old spare (and incomplete) Fed body and an ugly (but still working) Zorki C Body, I came up with the Idea to make a Fed Zorkistein of it. I checked the Fed's serial number and concluded most of the parts had been exchanged from other Fed's. The body shell's vulcanite was torning off and the film pressure plate was missing.
So I exchanged the shutter, (it had to be reglued because the main shutter drum of the Zorki C is langer), swapped the body shell, and used the C's shutter dial. The shutter dial fits but the screw is still visible. I still have to figure out what to do with the middle screw of the top plate on the back. :)

Nice, what kind of lens is that??
Its a Fed Zarya (Dawn ) with a 28mm f6 Orion-15 lens. The lens is very sharp, 4 elements in 4 groups, similar to Zeiss Topogon or the earlier Cooke Aviar. It was my first accessory lens for my Fed2, I bought the lens in Russia in the 1960's.
I later bought a coated Leitz f5.6 28mm Hektor, but the Orion was far sharper and much less prone to flare. So I sold the Hektor for a profit:angel: and kept the Orion.

hope this helps.

Sadly the Orion is quite rare now, and consequently pricey especially in the uncoupled Contax/Kiev mount!!

Yup- thats right Noel, I have a TOE brochure all the lenses for the Fed/Zorki were about that price.
Mine cost me about 5 GBP in Russia because I paid for it in US dollars cash,
my Fed 2 (Still with me ) cost about 15GBP including a Leningrad meter, paid for the same way!!
I was on a school cruise to Leningrad, on the Devonia (I think that was the name of the boat.)
The last Orion I spotted on the web went for about 200 GBP:eek:
P.S. I have the Russian 28mm finder but it distorts badly, like looking through one of these security viewers with added frameline!
