View Full Version : Off topic - OM2 gets new clothes
Just put some new leather from cameraleather on my OM2. My old Nikon F got some treatment too. Sure beats the peeling leather it replaced.

Very nice. The brown leather really gives a classic look.
Another shot. Feels nice in the hand as well. I'm very tempted to do my R3A next.

What a lovely mod!!
I have an OM-2n CLA'd and I ordered a custom skin for it also, so I'll have one like yours whenever it's back from the camera garage :)
John, your Nikon F is super cool looking. I bet you get stoped by people who ask what kind of camera is that?

John: Which leather is that? Looks like the mahogany kid (goat) material. I have green (verdigris) on one of my 35SPs; it does feel luxurious, but I find it just ever so slippy. Not dangerously so, but I think my next one covering might not be kid.
I do love that colour ... looks wonderful on both cameras.

I'm sure this will ruffle some feathers, but this is the first time I have a picture of Olympus and Nikon side-by-side.
.... and I think the OM-2 is more pleasing to look at compared with the angular Nikon F. That's how a lot of time got me suckered into Olympus, a lot of their cameras are just so inviting to pick up and use.
But considering Nikon is no.2 on the food chain, I'm sure this notion is solely caused by my peculiar taste

You're dead right - Mahogany kid goat. I think it looks very stylish against the silver. Is probably a little slippery but doesn't feel unsafe. It really highlights the MC on the lens.
I do like the green as a choice for my R3A but the Mahogany also looks so good against a black body as well.
I think the old SLR's like fantastic with some new coloured leather and very individual. Can't wait to take my next roll with the OM2.
Cheers,
John

I agree :)
As much as I love the iconic Nikon F, I just gave it to my brother for his 37th birthday. For him it will be a working camera, like it deserves. For me it would have sat on the bench while I shot my OM2 or R3A. I gave it to him today and he was blown away!

Great looking pieces. I had something similar to your F on my Kiev 4A. The red is so striking with the chrome and black. I'm still in the contemplative stage as to what to put on my 35RC.
Jay: I've thought about recovering my RC as well. The original leather is in great shape, it's just that I like the green Verdigris kid so well on my SP that I've thought of the same or similar for the RC.
BTW, my RC needs a CLA including replacing or straightening the filter ring. Anyone have a parts RC or a spare filter ring? I'd rather do everything in one go.

That's funny.. the angles are exactly what i like about the F's.. now, if only the F's were the size of an OM, i'd be all set!
