Hi All,
Just got the captioned from the bay.
Tried to put my 40.5mm hood on but failed.
Anything wrong?
(BYW, my 40mm hood is "mountable")
Thanks in advance for your idea.

40.5 should work. I use an ebay Heavystar vented hood with mine (40.5mm).

Like Rover said, 40.5mm hood should work. BUT after 50 years or so it's possible that the ring took a shallow dent. That would make it hard for the 40.5 to go on, and allow the 40mm to stick into place. Look for out-of-round on the filter ring. I had one 5cm F1.4 that could mount a 39mm filter. It took me a while to get it back to its normal 43mm.

Whats the serial number and which mount?

It is also possible that you got a bum example of the hood. Some will have small burrs, etc. along the threading that prevent proper mounting. Usually some forced, but not too forceful, rotation will remove the burrs & allow mounting, but not always (in that case just get an exchange).

BTW, good to see Mr. Sweeney back on the forum.

Thanks for all your input.
Bingo for Brian!
Shallow dent found under close inspection.
My 40.5mm hood fit now.
BTW, it seems that the Nikkor is quite "flare resist", and the hood is kept for protection only. (My Red-Scale Elmar flare easily, thus led me to use the fikus, rather than the fison)
