View Full Version : Now this, at least, is pretty funny.

Well, the M2 busting on the first wind is actually somewhat amusing, now that I've salved the wound with a little conjugal bliss (and expressed the sucker back.) But this one is really good...

I didn't know my Summitar was collapsible. It never occured to me: I was shooting last night at a party, and wondered why it was turning where it shouldn't; and well, it should.

I can be remarkably unaware sometimes. And now my M3 doesn't take up too much more space than the Rollei 35.

Good one, Merciful!

Are you sure the M2 was really broken?

Smart guy! Unfortunately, yes; I spent some time messing about to see if there was anything I could have buggered up, but they're so simple, as you know. Won't wind, won't fire...

Did it reach the end of the counter? Does it lock up then? I'm not sure.

we need these happenings to keep us humble.

i myself prefer not to be too humble though.

Well, better that than finding that your Summitar was collapsible WHEN mounted on a Leica CL... ouch !

No no Gene, don't worry, it was hypothetical :p

No, that was one of the things I checked in desperation. I popped out the spool, reset the counter to zero; all that jazz. Besides: the shutter is jammed half-way through a cycle, and has a little hump in it; it ain't right in there at all.

I have nasty issues with humility. A little jolt now-and-then doesn't hurt.

i sensed that about you.
somewhat similar to myself but i'm guessing you're younger than me. with age comes a slower movement to mouth and mind and more importantly movement.
can't 'fight' like i used to...

Most of us do need reminding to be humble. I've mentioned before that it seems to me that life gives me uncannily well-timed slaps in the face whenever I gloat or become too full of myself.

I'm in better shape all the time, now: but even more importantly, I'm slowly becoming more peaceful.

Did it reach the end of the counter? Does it lock up then? I'm not sure. That's a useful thought, Frank, but no they don't lock up at some high-point on the counter. The M2 manually-reset external counter wheel just keeps rotating!

Years ago when Ilford briefly offered HP5 in 72-exposure rolls, I tried it in my M2. The counter made about two revolutions to reach the end of the film... Have no idea what would happen with other cameras, interesting question.

You are a better man than I; if I had an M2 that broke on the first wind, I'm afraid my attempt at 'conjugal bliss' would probably be a failure as well--- How could you concentrate?

How could you concentrate?

Ahhh, just great material with which to work...

Hhehe.
I still remember when I bought the contax IIIa with its meter described as "dead" - the meter wheel was turned fully CLOCKWISE opposite to the suggestion in the manual; this way it will never react on light of course. When i figured this out, it took only half a second to "repair it".
