I suspect that I may be ridiculed for this, but I here goes.
I joined the Leica Historical Society of America around Jan 3rd. Their publication looked interesting, although their $55/yr membership fee seemed a bit steep. Since joining, however, I've received nothing but a billing to my credit card from them, Not a "welcome" mailing. Not a copy of their magazine. Nothing.
Did I just waste $55? Is this just a coffee klatch of old geezers that reminisce about the pictures they took during the Korean war?
No ridicule here, Ken, though I can think of a site or two where that would be expected -- I've encountered a couple of LHSA members, and they seem helpful, knowledgeable, and dedicated to collector type issues. They evidently swing some influence with Leica too. I'm not a member, so I don't know what response is normal.
This reminds me of joining the American Legion a few years ago. I get the national and state publications, but not a peep yet out of the local lodge about their meetings or other activities. I went up there once to see what's up, and all I found was a few folks whiling away the afternoon in the bar. Not really my style... :( Didn't see a bulletin board either, oh well.
Good luck, Ken, and I expect you'll hear from them eventually. Maybe the magazine is bimonthly or something.
I hear they could come after me because I dececrated my M2 with a vinyl Japanesque Gold cover. I also hear they have black helicopters with stealth mode. Now that you've joined you'll probably end up with a probe up your behind in an alien UFO. :p

the lhsa members that I have run into on lists like leica user group has been nice and helpfull and some of them refer to the lhsa homepage for references - looking at the homepage though gives the expression that it is a bit oldfashioned - but I would not rule it out on behalf of that - one thing though I think the hammertone lhsa edition of the mp is about as ugly a camera can get
Stick with it Ken. I'm not a member but I understand they have very good info about used stuff and if you are a member of the club you can sometimes get excellent prices on gear.
Ken,
I am sure will be getting some materials, including your issues of "Viewfinder", pretty soon. I am a member as well and they are just a bit "slow" getting out some of their materials.
Welcome to the LHSA :)
