Hey hey..

Seeing as how Andy's R-D1 sort of started my 2007 GAS.. I needed to find a P&S film camera - ya ya.. I know.. what's an R-D1 got to do with P&S - well, nothing really but in my hunting for something to satiate my GAS I found a GR-1s.

I've heard good things about the camera and I'm willing to give it a go (and likely keep it) but has anyone got any comments on the camera?

What's it like compared to it's previous incarnation (GR-1) or it's later incarnation (GR-1v)?

Cheers
Dave

let me get this straight...you might buy a film point & shoot camera because you didn't buy a digital rangefinder?

Something like that :)

It's more because I want a film P&S - I like the digi P&S but I want to use film too ya know :D

and I'm holding off on the digital RF for now.. don't need it per se :D

i have the Gr1S and it's a pleasure to use... it's small and fast to operate, however the motor (film transport) is loud... snap mode is great as it allows you to prefocus and makes for near instantenous shutter release... main downside is that there is no manual ISO settings which means that you have to 'cheat' by using the exposure compensation dial (1/2 stops from -2 to +2)...

the lens and metering is superb...

here is a shot from it on TriX@1600 souped in Diafine... this was shot in low light ... the meter handled the contrast well - only slight curve adjustment for better contrast...
