Hey All and Happy New Year,

Since the M8 is so sensitive to IR light I would think that it would make a great camera for IR photography. Perhaps in the sensitivity range of the Sony digitals. Has anyone tried puting an R72 filter on one? Most digital cameras with an IR blocking filter on them require exposures in the seconds in daylight. I would imagine that the M8 would give handholdable speeds with an R72 on it.

WOW folks, you mean nobody has tried this yet? Digital IR photography can producs some wonderful images.

I know. :)

I have a 725nm red filter that I often use on my R-D1. At iso400 I can easily use it during the day at reasonable shutter times. In Epson PhotoRaw I just crank up the exposure by 2 full stops. :) Works a charm. Interesting stuff. What kind of shutter speeds are you getting with your R-D1 and the 725nm filter? I am seriously considering an R-D1. The fact that it seems to be good for IR work is a plus. What do you honestly think of yours and have you had any problems?

Ah- IR photography, great fun on the M8. If memory serves 1250 ISO 1/60th.Summicron 35 asph@ 2.0. Automatic exposure, but I bracket the focus. I did post this one before a couple of weeks.

Hand holdable times. Up to 1/30 sec. and down to 1/4 sec.

I've been using mine near exclusively for 20 months now. It's the only camera I use apart from an occasional use of the Eos300D. The Eos is no match. Yes, it has all the benefits of a dSLR but the image quality of the R-D1, the ease of use, the rf-ness of the camera. I love it. Don't _my photos_ (http://shardsofphotography2.blogspot.com/) prove it enough? :)
