M8 upgrade, NJ or Germany??

Sorry if this post is redundant. Can the upgrade be performed at Leica in NJ, or does it have to go to Germany? Thanks!

My understanding is that all M8's go back to Germany for any service, including the banding/blob fix. Mine has an "old-fashioned" AE/metering problem that is unrelated to the various banding/IR issues & I've been told by Leica USA that it will still go back to Solms. I'm not surprised as the M8 doesn't really share many of the same mechanics as the film M bodies & the folks in NJ may not be equipped to handle it right now.
