I love the lower contrast of this lens. Just got mine in Nikon S mount with an Amedeo adapter and when I can nail focus, the lens is fantastic.

Since I just got the lens I'm fooling around with color a bit. Once I get over the low contrast color honeymoon, I'm gonna start in with the black and white.

Haha - this one is brilliant Erik!
I especially like, how the lady above the "Sport" page is the only one, who is peeking out of the window and looks like kind of doing it in a sneaky way, not to be seen by anybody, while everybody else is completely consumed by their newspaper ;-)

Thanks! I think my general purpose favorite is still the Yashinon 5cm 1.8 but this Nikkor is really interesting. Once I can predict what it will do at different apertures I'll probably like it even more. :)

The "glow" disappears at f1.7 or so, Brian. Then it becomes sharp and contrasty. Its close up performance is legendary. And, because a Sonnar, it has very little distortion.

Erik - this is a wonderful impression of a moment!
I love the composition with curtain and table + the interaction between flower in foreground and hand in door - all so simple elements in a photo but brought together nicely here, others, including myself, would have not even recognised.

Question: are there any significant differences between the LTM, S-mount, and F-mount versions of the Nikkor-S 50 1.4?
Question: are there any significant differences between the LTM, S-mount, and F-mount versions of the Nikkor-S 50 1.4?
When I started this thread I didn't own my 50mm D.R. Summicron. Since acquiring the D.R. Summicron, I have neglected the Nikkor 50/1.4. My bad. I need to use the Nikkor more often.
As for the question above: In theory, the two rangefinder versions should be identical. However, the SLR (F mount) version is a different formula and has been through many versions. Only a visual comparison of photos could detect similarities and differences between the rangefinder and SLR lenses.

I've had both the LTM and S-mount. They are about 90% the same with the only difference being minimum focus. The LTM will technically focus down to 0.6 losing coupling at 0.7. The S-mount you see above in the Amodora mount will only focus down to 0.9 meters.

No. Stock it will close focus to 0.9, but it can be easily modified to 0.7. The lens itself will close focus even more, but loses coupling at 0.7 meters
