View Full Version : Cheap R2 eyecup
I have seen ones sold by CV for $15 a pop. I decided to look for a cheap alternative. Found a Nikon DK-10 eyecup for $5 and it fits perfectly. I heard Cosina makes some viewfinders for Nikon so I used a little reverse logic, and BINGO!

OK. Now you're scaring me.
You answered the question before I asked it.

The R and R2 eye piece is the same as the Nikon FM10. All Nikon eyepiece accessories for their camera will fit the Bessas.
Thanks! I have heard this before but you show it in the picture. :)

Ahhh . . . I do have additional questions:
Only FM10 accessories? Or do others fit?
I know VC makes the FM10 for Nikon so that makes sense. Just wondering if any others work. I'm quite sure neither company will answer that question.
B&H has a listing for an eyepiece adapter that they say fits "FM-10, FE-10, N50 ,N70, N80, N6006/6000, N5005, N2000 & Pronea cameas" and "Allows the use of eyepiece accessories upon the camera." Extrapolating from that, accessories should be interchangeable amongst those models.
Which raises an interesting question which is, did Nikon ask VC to meet an existing spec OR did VC make those bodies all along?

My guess is that Nikon provided the specs to provide for the interchangability of parts. It would be just as much of a pain for them to have a zillion different parts as it is for the consumer. I would stick to FM10 assessories, or talk to a Nikon retailer (a real camera shop person) about the interchangablity of other camera accessories onto the FM10 eyepiece.
I've read through a Google search that the eyecup for the N80/F80 will fit the R2. Personally, I know the DK-10 eyecup will fit the D70 (friend has one), although the D70 is speced with a DK-16 cup. If you go to B&H, you'll find that DK-10 and DK-16 look just the same. My suspicion is that the are all interchangable.

If you scan the Nikon N80 sites, you can find the instructions for modifying
a full round Nikon eyecup (from the BIG N cameras) to fit DK-10/16 style
eyepieces on the Bessas.

Does anyone know where I can get an R2 eyecup in the UK?

The DK-16 eyecup doesn't fit as nicely as the DK-10, at least on an R. Directly beneath the viewfinder there is a small plate with a screw (you can see it in this picture: http://www.cameraquest.com/jpg5/vbesr2.jpg). That plate pushes the DK-16 too far away from the body, in my opinion, and I don't think it'd stay put for very long. YMMV...
Hmmm....it looked to me that both DK-10 and Dk-16 are the same except the DK-16 is slimmer. Both have the notched out areas where the viewfinders wings slip into. Also, I checked, my R2 viewfinder has the same "plate with the screw" too.
