running slides through a kiev

Hi all,
quite similar a subject to one that was posted in the Contax forum, I'd like to know whether someone has ever shot slides with a Kiev IIIa. Are the speeds reliable enough for that? Or do I need to find out what actual speed the shutter is working at?

Any contax or kiev with a shutter in resonable condition should have a good 1/125, at least. The internal meter, ditto the only caution is you may want to point the camera down when you meter as the sky may dominate given the angle of acceptance. Compare the meter with another camera or meter for caution.

Yes, I have shot slides several times with my Kiev IIIa. From the results I got with b&w film II figured that the speeds 1/50 to 1/500 were close enough. I used a hand held light meter and got some well exposed slides.

Forgot I normally shoot slides with Kievs, mainly IIIIs with meters.

I regularly shoot slides in my Kiev's but I if you do not want to bracket like crazy it would be best to find out exactly what speed your shutter is running at to save on film. Attached example of Velvia 50.

I've frequently shot slides with my Kiev. I was better off bracketing for a while especially at the low speeds. After a CLA, the shutter speeds were much more accurate.

The Helios actually works very nicely for color work.
