Hello,
I had an offer to buy one Makinon and one Marexar zoom lenses. I've not heard of these brands. I could not find much helpful information on the web. Does any one have any information on these two brands that can help me decide?

Many thanks, Amr.

Well I've owned a Makinon zoom and it was of rather low build quality -- in fact it fell apart. Some may be better than others. For third party SLR lenses Tokina, Tamron, and Sigma are among the best. Some older Soligor and Vivitar can be decent too. There are many other brands that have a following -- Kiron comes to mind. There are some Web sites devoted to third party SLR lenses -- search for them with Google.

My dad had a couple of Makinon zoom lenses for his Pentax SLR 20 years ago and they were simply awful -- I'd stay away from them. Life is too short for bad optics...

They are both cheap third party lenses with the performance to match. Bearing in mind the low cost of MF film SLR lenses these days, I would avoid them like the plague.
