View Full Version : Jupiter 12 on Fed 5
Would this combination work. How much would one expect to pay for a J12
and are they any good?
Thanks

it works very well.
between 35 to 80 dollars should be a fair price, depending on the condition, and where you buy it ,for the J-12.
IMHO, the J-12 is a very good lens, although some members here find it
can easily flare somewhat.
you will need an external finder also.
the Fed 5 body is dirt cheap to buy and plentifull.

Thanks. for the replies.
I have had a Kiev 6 and found the lenses were pretty good. I like all manual
cameras and lenses instead of the all auto stuff nowadays.

I think J-12 are quite good. The symmetrical design makes them almost distortion-less. It's a Biogon design, still used in many MF and LF lenses.
If you want to see some examples, click the "-12" in my signature.
But you better get a different body - FED 5 has quite tall hood. In other words, the external viewfinder will sit quite high above the lens and it will suffer from paralax error. A Kiev without the meter is best in this regerd, FED 2 or FED 3 would still be better than FE5, but even FED 5 will do if you compensate...

I prefer using the Zeiss 432/5 viewfinder
(sample here (http://www.pacificrimcamera.com/pp/zeiss/contax/35finder.jpg))
but the price hurts a bit!
