View Full Version : Russian film ratings
Not long ago I suddenly became aware that there is/was a Russian system for rating film speeds - rather different form the ASA/ISO we have grown up with. Anyone know how this works and how the speed ratings compare?
GOST ratings they're called, IIRC. And I've read some webpage about them. Must have been Matt Denton's or Jim Blazik's Russian camera site or such.
Check out this page (and site) for info or links:
I remember there was a rather simple trick to convert GOST into ASA/Iso values, not exactly correct but near enough to be more than useful, but for the life of me I can't exactly remember where I saw it. :)
triy this chart for GOST to ISO conversion-
As I recall, a value in GOST is exactly 90% of an ASA/ISO rating. Therefore, ASA 100 would be GOST 90.
Looking at the chart posted by garryl seems to verify that but I wonder why they added the zero to the DIN numbers?
Something very fishy about the chart's DIN numbers...
