Hi again, and hope you mind another RF-newcomer query: I'm using a sample of the above lens that has a pretty generous wobble (most;y side-to-side) in the focusing ring (again, this is the version of the Summicron with the focusing tab and no inyegral hood, s/n 348xxxx). Is this a common circumstance in older, well-used Leica lenses, and is it likely to affact optical performance? The focusing action itself is buttery smooth. Also, can a technician tighten things up?
OK, this amounts to more than one question, so be patient with me...:-)
thanks...aa.
the first I heard of this was in a thread at Photo.net within the past week. Some of the respondents did indicate that this is a common problem. I have the same version 50/2 without problems.
As for service, Sherry Krauter is excellent. She serviced another one of my lenses quickly and for a very fair price in my eyes. Give her a call. She is very frank and will give you her honest opinion.

Andy,
You got one of the WOBBLY ones???? Do you know how rare that version is?
Seriously, it's not a big problem but if it bothers you... send it in to Don Goldberg (alias DAG.) He'll look after you and do a great job on it (and at a very decent rate.)
Cheers
