My M3 will return from DAG in coming two weeks. So it's time to buy myself a X'mas gift.

I spent so much time on determining which case I should buy. I viewed info of different designs. In my personal taste, I must say Luigi's is un-resistable.

I hesitated on the gray case because I think it's more fit on a black body as my M4-P, untill I saw the pices on luigi's website---It fits perfectly with a chrome M3 too!!!

Luigi just replied me that he need 10days for case making (Mine is a special one for early M3 with budda ears). Then he will send it out ASAP.

The thing left for me is to sit down and count the dates......... I will show how it looks with my M3.

Cheers, my friend.

Thanks, Randy. I think I will also order one case for my M5 later.

Yeah, just like the cameras, no one can stop at just one Luigi case! ;-) I have them on my M6, M3 (also with buddha ears) and CL. Each one makes using the camera that much more enjoyable.

I will be getting a second for my second MP. Either another black or a brown.

I got one for the M3, but then betrayed the M3 and gave it to the newer M6. The M3 got its original ever-ready case after some improvements by a leather store. Now I can use the half-case when needed.

You "betrayed the M3!" :p That's great, Raid.

I didn't quite do the same thing. But the first Luigi case, for my M3, certainly motivated me to buy a second for my M6. And that, in spite of already having a nice leather half case for the M6. But I really like the Luigi built-in grip half cases so when I saw a used one come up for sale I had to have it for the M6. It's very nicely broken in which means the leather strap is very soft and pliable. Makes it wonderfully easy to wrap around my wrist. And because the used case is already marked with use (typical leather use discoloration, no tears, cuts or rips), I can use it without worrying about messing up Luigi's gorgeous handiwork.

Randy: I tried for a while to get a used Luigi half-case for the M6, but I was unsuccessful in finding a suitable one.

I'm pretty sure I'm getting one of Luigi's 1/2 cases from my wife for Christmas. I like the aged brown and also the rally colored cases. Can't wait to wrap my MP in it.

I got my cases from Kameraleder. I'm curious about the Luigi halfcase but am a bit concerned about the tanning agents. Do post pics....:)

Just curious, why are you worried about the tanning agents? Do you mean from an environmental standpoint, or possible damage to the camera's finish, or allergies perhaps?

I think it was in PNEt where it's been said that the tanning agents may harm the finish when the M bodies are left in those halfcases. I was googling then - that's how I read about it...

Hmm...

Haven't heard that, but I would think that with the numerous customers of Luigi's cases, we would have heard about it if there was a problem with his tanning methods.

Maybe a quick email to him might provide some insight?

Here's the link (http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00IpoA) discussing whether the glue/tanning agents cause the finish to blister.

Luigi's halfcases look really good though....

The blistering was most likely an issue with the plater. There are proper methods of cleaning and out gassing a die casting prior to plating.

Relative to leather, there are different types of tanning. The tanning process is done by the leather supplier and not Luigi.

However, I would bet my money and camera (which I have) that he knows which type to use. Just as any good holster maker for firearms also uses the correct "vegetable" tanned leather.

My M5 is the photo on his website, and I just ordered another case for my M8.

If you have any doubts why don't you send him an email. He is a nice guy and does respond. I think that is a much more professional way to handle the question vs. raising a doubt about an excellent product needlessly.

Best,

Ray

Don't you mean OUR M5? :)

Try as I might, I couldn't convince Mrs. Wayne to order a half case from Luigi for my Christmas present. OUR M5 feels naked without it. What color is the case? If/when I get one I want that color.

See how naked it looks in my avatar?

Hi Wayne,

Yes, you are correct. The one in that photo is our M5. My other M5 has the 50th Aniv. symbol on the front.:D

That is just plain black with his standard red interior.

I ordered the same thing for the M8.

You will not regret the case. They really are well made, protect the camera, and I love the slight bump for a handle.

Best,

Ray

I also forgot to comment that having owned and then sold the Kameraleader case, the Luigi really does seem more "luxurious" in the hand.

The Kameraleader case is very well made, a little thinner, and probably more "machine type manufacture" (although I believe it is also hand sewn) in its consistency or almost perfect curves.

Having said that, I still prefer the type of leather that Luigi uses, his thicker leather, softer lining, and the obvious care in his hand made products. Having a good friend who is a nationally known holster maker in the U.S. and understanding his product, Luigi does excellent stiching (tension, depth, spacing, etc...).

Best,

Ray

"I got my cases from Kameraleder. I'm curious about the Luigi halfcase but am a bit concerned about the tanning agents. Do post pics...."

Dear friends, and RFF members,

Seem to me necessary a my precise statement on the matter of this thread.

When I say (and write) that I am using the VERY BEST leathers available
in the Italian high fashion market, I mean that ALL the important leather's
properties are at the highest levels: surface quality, thickness, duration,
colours stability, and, perhaps even more important, hecological, natural
tanning, made ONLY with the best existing vegetable oils !

Furthermore, for the inner lining I am only using a similar quality, soft suede
leather, that the tanning company (a fine one in Tuscany) warranted me as
absolutely HARMLESS, wichever would be the use and the contact with.

The tanning factory Master told me, smailing: "you could even EAT it !"...

Then, please, don't listen to rumours, and, if necessary, please report me
any possible disappointments, that could help me to improve my cases.

As some of you already knows, I will always do my best in order to avoid any
possible problems, and/or to FIX them !

Thank you, ciao, and best greetings, Luigi

I do wish people would stop talking about Luigi's cases. Every time I read such a post, I get all itchy and then go green with my resolve weakening. :(
I really can't afford one at the moment and I just know that if I got one, I would have to have another for t'other Leica. It's just not fair!

Kim,

This isn't a case but I just ordered one of these babies for my Rolleiflex.

http://www.leicatime.com/BlackRolleiStrapSdr.jpg

Picked up a beater strap on ebay and sending the clamps off to Luigi on Monday. Since I don't have a "collectable" Rolleiflex this is going to be a super nice addition to the camera.

I know, I know, I know. That's why it is so cruel going on about them!

Kim

Kim -- they are soft, they have a feel that is similar to your first experience holding a leica M --- he makes them for most any camera --- he also makes gadget bags and purses for the ladies.....

he is a true genius with his craft...

it's worth every penny -- it's cheaper than most lenses, and it protects your camera...

It arrived!!!

This noon, just came back from lunch, I found a package on my desk. It's the Luigi's case I have been waiting for.......

So great! I love it curve, I love its feel. The small grip is such a sweet thing, I must say. The strap is so soft. and comfortable on my neck. Thanks, Luigi.

This is a special made one for old budda ears M3. So may I optimistially guess it's the only gray one in the world for old M3?

One question, when you use the case, do you add the ring-protection pad of the deluxe strap? I found it's quite tight when fix and remove the case with the protection pad.

Some snap pices taken 5 mins ago....

Very nice!

I cut the leather tabs off my Luigi strap for the same reason. I also noticed on Luigi's site that he had two photos showing the straps without the leather "tabs" when used with a half case. The only issue IMO would be if you plan to use the strap without the 1/2 case sometimes, in which case you would miss the protection of the tabs.

Thank, Joe and LADP.

This time Luigi used a green color soft leather for the inner layer. I found I love it more than the red inner one shown in Luigi's website.

Regarding the protection tab, I guess I will leave them there. Most of the case I will use the half case and a wrist strap together.

Although I haven't got a wife to give me a case, I'm choosing between the same colours. I really like the rally one, but sometimes I get the idea that it is to red for me and that the aged brown would suit me better...

Anyone got both? :)

The "desert" finish is beautiful. I can highly recommend it [I have the cheapest "ECO" half-case with the built-in grip on a chrome M2]. Luigi is the man. Wonderful, [relatively] inexpensive products, a total gentleman to deal with.

Luigi - se sta leggendo quest'e-mail, spero che abbia un buonissimo Natale !!.

I just found another good reson to get a decent case.......

...try holding a metal camera with a 90mm lens on it at -11 degs C. Your hands get mighty chilly. Mine improves the grip enormously too. The Luigi leather is super grippy too. Again, Luigi cases have that human touch that is so rare these days. The sort of 'man rather than machine-made' thing that stays in a family and is passed down AND carries something with it as it goes. Just like Leicas perhaps? I am not a fan of exotic patterns. mine is plain black and teh next one might be an adeventurous brown.

Turtle
12-12-2006, 02:43
Oh, the tabs..with time they ease off and prevent the pushing of the strap outwards if you get me. I just slip my trigger finger inside the strap and find that very confortable and soon becomes habit (I have had mine only a month).

Welcome to the Luigi Users Group (LUG). But you just cannot stop at a lower case. Oh no, you'll need another strap, and do not forget to get at least one wrist strap. I think what makes his stuff beyond best is that he is a joy to work with and know. Next up for me: a lower case for my IIIG. Enjoy!
