Hi all, I'm new to this forum and pretty new to RF photography. I had to find out what was so cool about RFs so on advise I got from another forum I bought a Bessa R and the VC 35/2.5 classic. I really like my new little outfit. I've only shot a few rolls through the camera and my results were first rate in my opinion. It takes a little getting used to not seeing through the lens. But I'm quite happy with the set up. Anyway, I'm glad I found this forum. Lets see if my picture posts.

After looking at the picture I posted I think I could use lessons in PS. My post doesn't look as snappy as I would like it to. More contrast?

Welcome, Jim! Gotta love those Bessas. Not only cost effective, they also have in-camera snow-removal processing. Where's the snow?? :D

Be sure to sign up for the gallery too so you can post pics for us to see.

Thanks Gene. I just figure out how to use the gallery. There isn't much for snow in Alaska, at least were I live. We've been enjoying rain and wind for most of the winter. But it is January and the local lakes in my area are frozen finally. I went Ice fishing last weekend and there was about 14" of ice, just enough to drive on safely. What's a "peripatetic photographer"? Oh, I get it . Three words.

I always forget how mild parts Alaska are. It's often worse here in Ontario -- in fact we're in a deep chill again. I hear Chicago's bad right now too.

Welcome, Jim! Nice pic, too, especially the sky... though the stream seems dull somehow. Hope you enjoy RFF!

Hi! Jim!
What was the temperature when you were taking this photograph?

Hi Jim

What you need to know is that when you down size and compress pictures to be posted on the web the loose detail or/ and contrast or/and tonal range
if you start out working with a picture in say 300 dpi 1600 pixels wide and you change the image size to 700 pixel in 72 dpi you need to sharpen the pictures and adjust the levels and then use the save for web funktion in photoshop. Using this function gives you the option of seing 4 versions and you can change the parameters so the work well on your image

The picture looks a bit dark and dull - if you need more work done in photoshop explore the history brush and layers functions the work wonders

I do like you picture though ! a feeling of solitude

Welcome, Jim.
I can't imagin how cold the place you are living in.

Ruben is right, your pic is suffering from shadow details lost. It is obvious at the right part of the tall trees. I am not sure which part go wrong, maybe scanning I guess.

But I do like the mood of your picture. It gives me cold, moderate wind and a bit lonely feeling. A sentimental picture.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Soldotna is about 60 miles south of Anchorage as the crow flies. We're located on the Kenai Peninsula. In fact the Kenai River flows right through town. The temperature outside when that picture was taken was in the low 20s. Clear skys usually mean cooler temps up here. Ruben, I don't have the full version of PS. Only the home addition. I follow what you're saying though. Practice, practice, practice.

Did you mean -20F? or -20C?
(sorry! since I am not an American.)

Hi, Cloudy! By common convention, I expect Jim means by "low 20s" somewhere between +20F and +25F, about -7C to -4C or so.
