Hi people,


My last MR-4 battery has given up life today. I have no spare meter and really want to shoot some rolls.
So I'm just going to guess exposure for the next rolls.

Join in and post YOUR pictures without light-metering

I think a lot of people (including myself) will be suprised of the result of the images (in both ways: negative and positive).

I'm really exited to see our non-metered pics that will give an experimental and creative touch to the pictures and to our self, our way to capture life on a roll.

the light meter in my old zeiss ikon contessamat se long ago bit the dust, so I shoot it sometimes with no metering, not to mention that only a few speeds still work on the damn thing. The film was delta 100, exposure was probably 1/125, apature I think was around 3.5. The lens is a dinky old zeiss plantar 2.8 lens which I love.

I don't know if these add anything of interest, but I am a Sunny 16 man with my rangefinders (Zorki4 -> Kiev4A -> M3), and although I have a incidient/reflective meter with me, I rarely take it out of my bag.

Light through window from setting sun and scattered clouds made me expose XP2 Super at 1/250sec f5.6 with Jupiter 8 on the Zorki. PP done (on a very poorly calibrated monitor) to the center of the image, where the dragging shutter curtain caused an uneven exposure.

The concert settings I must admit are influenced by experience with shooting the same locations with a DSLR, but with a little experience, I feel confident in most lighting situations with a film with a reasonably forgiving exposure latitude.

By definition, all of my shots are unmetered, since I don't own a meter or a metered Leica. Here are a couple from this weekend, shot Sunny 16 as usual. M3, Summitar, speed and apeture as the situation dictates, but I generally try for shallow depth of field when possible.

I shoot nearly everything without a meter. I did end up buying an incident meter a year ago after not having one for almost a decade. Sometimes I use it. Most of the time I don't.

You should be able to fit a diode to the meter and use silver batteries and rubber O ring instead of mercury?

Ive been known to forget what pocket my Weston was in but not for low light shots like these when I use a CdS religiously...

For very low light, I usually just give it as much exposure as I can ... wide open and 1/8 or halfway between 1/8 and 1/15, depending on the lens. Low light is actually pretty forgiving because there are lots of nuances in the shadows and midtones if you're using a fast negative film. Slide film wants more precision.
