Hi everyone. Rons post (Nikon coolscan IV: how much and how good?) sparked a tiny thought in my sleeping brain. Has anyone out there heard/seen/read/anything about tweaking the old HP Photosmart scanner (scsi model). I've had this since the end of 1997 and it's performed outstandingly only it's nowhere near as sharp as the coolscan. Just thought maybe one of you tinkers out there might know a way of improving this. I use it for quick viewing as it takes less time than the coolscan and the interface is less involved.
All the best.

This link might be able to help you out. I tried it on my Epson 3490 and it worked like a charm. I raised the film holder a little over 2mm. Good luck.

Sometimes an update to the software can yield a change in results. Especially if the model in question has variable focus.

Silverfast (if it supports that model) and Vuescan are both aftermarket scanning software options that can help.

No focus adjustments I'm afraid Rouge (old scsi model) so looks like I’ll have to try a few experiments: Maybe do a general post to see if someone else has found away to alter and or adjust focus.
All the best.
