In Aperture priority mode, the shutter speed is displayed in the viewer, but not in manual mode.
There should be at least a menu option to always display the shutter speed
Why? In AE you never know beforehand what the camera is going to set, so a display is necessary, but in manual you have set the speed yourself. My wife is always telling me I have no memory, but this I manage to remember.. :D
Let's do it the Leica way, count clicks...;)

Too bad the Shutter speed isn't always available. Odd for an electronic camera. D2 has it in manual mode.
Actually, it seems the viewfinder would not accomodate a led-screen that is large enough to show both the light-balance and the shutterspeed. I think this is the right decision, as it reduces VF clutter.
The M7 is the same way, is it not?
From what I've read, the M8 and the M7 are identical wrt the display in the VF

Peter, if you displayed the shutter speed in manual, would you be happy to have the arrows and the dot interspersed between the digits? Is so, it will look a mess, if not, how are you going to meter.
This is no different from the M7.
