How many in first allotment?
Did not ask. But, Tony said there will be a few happy people this week :) BTW, I was #3 on the list. I gave my deposit a long time ago. He did say he was getting black and silver.
Nice, you are on the A list.
Jorge. Do you still have the 15mm Zeiss? I would love to see some samples from that combo.
Jorge, no pictures of store signs please. Not that you'll, but just saying..

Congrats Jorge, great news !
For those who haven't dealt with Tony Rose before, he is a prince to buy from, great customer service.

This could be good news -- I was once told I was #2 on the Popflash list, after sending off a check last summer...haven't heard anything from Tony, though. Tony? Tony?

I'm #17 and Tony responded last week that it would be "soon". No call as of today yet tho. I think Jorge was going to pick mine up for me. Right Jorge? I only live in Indiana - about 2000 miles from Arizona.
Please! Sniff, sniff.... :(

Congratulations, Jorge! You're always in the forefront of things.
Now... I'm checking this forum on Saturday afternoon. You better have news by then! :)
I am hoping that his first allocation was 100 bodies, but I am not holding my breath. I am on the tail end of the list...
Mental note-
1. Find out who the driver is for Jorge's route on Saturday.
2. Find out how much cash is required for said driver to "lose" a package.
3. Weigh the amount of cash required against actual cost of buying and possible jail time.
4. Rinse and repeat.
The 15mm went back to its owner. All I can say is that lens is smoother than butter. I have never felt a Leica lens operate as smoothly as that Zeiss 15.
I thought I would go by an empty carnival and photograph some rides there :D Don't hold your breath. My pictures will be boring. I plan on updating the RFF M8 gallery this weekend if all goes well.

Hey Jorge! That's good news. Tony's great to deal with as you know. I bought 2 coded, ASPH lenses from Tony. Great guy to work with.
My M8 order is with Tamarkin. I certainly hope to he hearing from Eric soon.
We expect, no We DEMAND shots by Saturday:o
Jorge
I am glad to hear that your M8 will be here for the weekend. Congratulations! No M8 for me at this time after buying the DMR and 3 lenses. Enjoy and all the best with it.

RHIP. That is an old military saying.
By the way, I am very jealous right now. Enjoy that camera though.
Me too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
I also told Tony to ship it overnight for Saturday delivery. Guess what I will be doing this weekend.

Just got word that my silver M8 will be on its way Friday from Popflash.
Not sure what number I was, but I know I was somewhere in the teens.
Christmas in November.
Holy crap there's a lot of M8 buyers here on RFF alone. Methinks this bodes well for initial sales worldwide for Leica.
Hold the presses...
Tony told me I was #3.
Can there be two #3's?

I know at least one person who pulled out. Tony will hopefully be hearing again from me down the not-too-distant road! (Former #13)
:)
(Zoinks! All this time lurking and I only now decide to post!)
Hi I was told that I was #33 and I recieved this yesterday.
"M8 delivery has not happened at this moment but I am afraid it is going to be slower than expected."
I am leaving on a long trip end of november. I do hope I get delivery before then.

You lucky, lucky people!
Would one of you do me a favour? Once you stop grinning (after about 7-10 days I figure) could you shoot me a sample? I'd like to see a DNG and JPEG pair shot at ISO 1250 in good daylight on the street with a wide angle lens (anything from 21-35mm) at a smallish aperture. I realise this sounds a bit strange but I'd be grateful if someone would humour me.
Thanx.

No M8 for me at this time after buying the DMR and 3 lenses. Charles,
I am sure you will enjoy the DMR, as I am. It produces fantastic results and is much more flexible than a RF camera.
I have ordered an M8 which should arrive soon but am starting to have doubts whether it will be the right camera for me. My Ms (M3,M4) have been sleeping on a shelf, I wonder whether the M8 will revive my interest in RF. If not, I should be able to resell it without much of a loss.

Tony says it's on the way .........Can't wait!
I was determined not to get caught up in the hype but I find myself counting the days. I have recently returned from four weeks in Africa and have thousands of images to sort, rate, edit etc so I should be busy for the next several weeks but I'm sure I will find time get to know my new expensive toy!

I put down $1K with Tony Rose/Popflash. I just missed the first delivery, since I opted for a black body. I'll be #3 in the next shipment in ~2 weeks. Jorge, et al will have it fleshed out by then!
Great part 3 review by Sean Reid at www.reidreviews.com.

I too wanted a black body and don't mind waiting a few extra weeks for it, excruciating though it is. :) If I get a second body it will probably be silver... When did you order? Maybe I'll get mine in the same round.

As a Canadian and Vancouverite I researched Leos and the other Canadian stores before getting my M8 (perhaps a bit premature seeing as it doesn't get shipped till Friday) from Popflash. After currency coversion and creative tax planning (Canadians PM me if interested) it worked out quite a lot cheaper and faster
For you Leica owners in a position to know, what's your take on this chrome-vs-black situation?
I know that the Luminous Landscape reviewer said the chrome version was much more obtrusive, and anyone interested in discreet photography should hold out for the black one.
But I think my chrome-finish Canon 7s, although handsome, is reasonably subdued in appearance (much like myself, he said modestly) and the Leica M3 I used to own was likewise. By comparison, for some reason, the current chrome-finish Leicas look a bit gaudy -- at least in pictures, which is the only way I've seen them (the local dealer has never had any except black ones on display.)
Is the current chrome finish really that much different from that on older cameras, or is this a case in which the item doesn't photograph as well as it looks? If people who really want an M8 are willing to pass up chrome ones and wait for a black one, it does make me wonder...

About the same price from my calculations. I don't do "creative tax planning", I like to keep things above board. Not to mention supporting local retailers as well as the great sponsors here such as Popflash.

Many years ago when I owned two chrome M2's prior to my black chrome M4 I just covered them all in black electrical tape. It looked pretty disgusting and very unobtrusive! Just a tip for all you new chrome M8 buyers :D

Camera West (http://camerawest.com/) in Monterey, California have 75 people on their pre-order list but claimed, four weeks ago, that they could get an M8 to people outside of that list by Thanksgiving. That may or may not have changed by now.
