In Michael Reichmann's Luminous Landscape M8 review, he says the EXIF data from his coded lens did not include the maximum lens aperture. Perhaps this occurred because the Lens Detection setting in the main menu was not set to "Enabled". Opening the dng file from the Digital Outback (http://www.outbackphoto.com/reviews/equipment/leica_m8/Leica_M8_review.html) article in Bridge or PSCS2 shows the maximum lens aperture in the File Info Camera Data 1.

I was noticing that almost every Exif data that I was reading from any M8 files was f1.0 ... you can't tell me that each person was using the noctilux

Last Saturday I shot an M8 with firmware 1.06 and uncoded lenses (50 lux, 35 cron and 21 elmarit) at Kenmore Camera in Seattle. The Leica rep let me download the SD card to my portable hard drive. All of my shots in File Info in Bridge indicate max aperture value f/1.0 and don't show the actual apeture value, focal length or lens. This is presumably the default for uncoded lenses. In contrast, the File Info from the Digital Outback dng file shows actual aperture, max aperture and focal length.
In order to get this EXIF data you need a coded lens and the Lens Detection set ting in the menu has to be set to Enable.
Cheers,
Stan
