Fuji Natura: Does the lens collapse? Is it pocketable?

IGMeanwell

The lens does collapse

pocketable ... yes

its a bit thick though for a pocket.... but I did carry mine around in my pocket for quite some time

Thank you IG.

Now I just need to decide whether to get it from CA or HK. Same price both suppliers. $300

'Better get one quick--I heard they're discontinued already. Can you get them serviced in/ out of warranty.....or is there a warranty?

$300 is an excellent price for a Natura. I tought that my Natura Black was broken, but it turned out that I was wrong.

I see Camera Quest also has them for $300 and a 1 year's warranty.

The one year warranty is important, in my opinion. When I thought that my camera was broken, I had nowhere to send this camera for repair as I bought my camera on RFF like new. I emailed CameraQuest twice, but they never bothered to reply to my email request.

Get the black model if you can, it adds exposure compensation to the base features. I love mine and it's been a great travel camera.

Thank you. I'm looking at the Natura S in Aqua. CameraQuest has one, and a guy on eBay (with good feedback) in Hong Kong has one.

I want to take photos at night in bars without flash. All my film stock is ISO 100, anything faster would have to be ordered in. I am happy handholding at long exposures, is it simple to deactivate the flash?

IGMeanwell
10-26-2006, 22:06
yeah you can just deactivate the flash

but the only issue with the Natura is that once you turn it off it doesn't save your settings... so the flash will be on again when you turn the camera back on

Thank you IG.

I understand that the instructions and the control panel are Japanese language only. Is this an issue for English-speakers in day to day use?

IGMeanwell
10-26-2006, 23:01
nah... its pretty easy to understand

there was only one issue that I came across that gave me problems ... I had to translate the directions for this was a jam issue

you'll probably never have this issue

but a couple times when sticking the camera out of the car to take a couple photos.... the wind resistance somehow caused a jam of the lens (the lens extends slightly when you press the shutter) ... and it showed a bizarre message on the LCD

Well it turned out that the film advance had jammed and I had to take out the film to clear it... taking out the battery or anything wouldn't work. It only happened twice and each time was me being stupid.

Anyways that was the only time I had to look for some sort of answer ... everything else on that camera is super easy to understand

The Black Natura seems to underexpose, so it is necessary to adjust the exposure +1 each time with print film. Others have posted the same comment.

Maybe it's because of the subjects I shoot, but I haven't really noted any need to adjust the exposure compensation on mine at all.

EDIT: I'll have to try more indoor/lower-light shots and see if I notice my camera doing this.

Try these guys at the fine Fuji A/S (warranty/ non warranty afterservice) shop in Seoul, Korea. Email: ha97ppy@unitel.co.kr. It's a long shot, but they are superb technicians and cheap.

Good luck!

I want one from an EU supplier.

Does anybody know who might have stock of a Natura S Aqua?

I've tried the usual suspects but drawn a blank.

Target price delivered with tax is €250.

Natura film would be nice too, but not essential.

You can also try Map Camera in Tokyo. They have an English language option on their website, will ship outside Japan, and when I checked last spring they had the best price for the Natura S f1.9 Black -- in the neighborhood of US$235.

Fuji is releasing a new 35mm called the Klasse' with a 28mm 2.8 Super EBC lens

Interesting. Is that a metal or plastic body? Will it be avilable worldwide or just Japan again? However a disappointing 2.8.

ClaremontPhoto

Thank you. Klasse is not on eBay yet. I'll wait a while.

I talked to grumpy camera guy's wife and son yesterday and they both told me to buy Natura camera from Germany but had no specific information about shop or website.

They have ordered ISO 1600 Fuji film but the exact type is unclear. As are most of my photos.

IGMeanwell

Its an all metal body

Doesn't really comment on whether or not its going to be available worldwide ...

Bill58

My guess is no. I wish it was either 25mm or 28/ 1.7. I'd prefer the former. I gotta stop dreamin'.

p.s. $800--gulp. Kinda ridiculous, don't you think?

IGMeanwell
11-01-2006, 23:19
Yup... but since Japanese cameraholics tend to be just as crazy or crazier than those on this forum... its not illogical

If $800 is the price for the new Natura Klasse, it makes more sense to buy the Black for so little money. A price of $235 is unheard of.

Looks to me like Natura is copying or using the same design as the Rollei AFM35 that was discontinued a few years back. The price for these with a plastic body and 38/2.8 lens is still 300-375 US. on the bay, so if this is an all aluminum body with a 28mm lens then 800 isn't exactly out of the ballpark.

The Rollei AFM35 was actually the OLD Fuji Klasse. Rollei got the western world distirbution rights for the original Fuji Klasse, put a different lens coating on it, and rebadged it as a Rollei AFM35.

Fuji is releasing the Fuji Klasse. The first is the Klasse W with a wideangle 28mm lens and NP mode. The second is the Klasse S, which appears to be identical to the Rollei AF35/Fuji Klasse except that it has NP mode.

Also, the layout of the new Klasse W/S is a bit different than the original Klasse/Rollei AF35...the front manual focus knob is now the exposure compensation knob (the original class had that in the lcd menu)...and the manual focus knob has been moved to the top of the camera.

edit: one other thing...the orignal klasse had a 38mm/f2.6 lens...i'm not sure if the klasse s will be 38/2.6 like the original or 38/2.8...i thought i read somewhere that it would be 2.8...can't remember.

For those who missed my link this was the contents:

Fuji seems to be in a nostalgic mode. The company recently unveiled the new Klasse W compact film (that's right, not digital) camera featuring a 28mm F2.8 lens that matches an SLR camera in image quality.

Made of aluminum alloy, the Klasse W, true to its name, is available in a classy design. The first generation Klasse cameras, unveiled way back in 2001, featured a 38mm F2.6 lens and was a hit with amateur and pro photographers alike.

With shutter speeds up to 1/500 seconds and multilayer electron beam coating on the lens surface, you can expect some high quality images even in unfavorable conditions (for example with backlight).

Available in limited quantity (just 8,000 of 'em!) starting December 1, 2006, the Fuji Klasse W carries a price tag of ¥95,000 (US $808).

I said it elsewhere, but this is the camera I was really looking for when I settled on the Natura S Black to get my wide-angle freak on in a point-and-shoot. The 28mm would be easier to control than the 24mm but not as fast. Timing is everything, I guess. Maybe if this production run sells well we can hope for another.

How about a 28mm/1.4 lens Natura? I ask for one.
